3DS eShop

Super Punch-Out!! joined the New 3DS Virtual Console in Europe yesterday. 10 minutes of off-screen footage can be found below.

Last October, Gunslugs 2 came out as a 3DS eShop title. Engine Software has now announced that the original game is also in the works for Nintendo’s portable. It’s targeted for a late May release with a $1.99 / €1.99 price point.

Here’s an old trailer for Gunslugs:

Nintendo Badge Arcade has introduced a new arm type in Japan. Pictured above is the Stick Arm, which has users holding down the button until it’s on the desired spot. Once released, the arm extends all the way down and pushes badges. We’ll have to see when this is added to the overseas version of Nintendo Badge Arcade.

SEGA

SEGA was a strong proponent of the Wii Virtual Console back in the day. The company also has quite a number of titles up on the eShop. It sounds like SEGA wanted to work with other companies like Capcom and Bandai Namco on VC titles, but things sadly never came together.

SEGA told Yosuke Okunari in a recent interview:

“During the Wii Virtual Console days, we worked with other developers and were able to port games that were on Megadrive and other Sega systems. Those were all made on our side. However, negotiations with some publishers, like Capcom and Bandai-Namco, didn’t go through. We did consider negotiating again when the 3DS came along, but business-wise, nothing really came together.”

This information comes from Nintendo’s investors briefing as stated by president Tatsumi Kimishima…

Worldwide, the four Virtual Console titles – Pokémon Red, Green, Blue and Pikachu – have been downloaded more than 1.5 million times. More than half of these downloads came from the American market. Since the start of the calendar year, Pokémon has been the subject of much attention in America, and sales are showing a favorable trend. Although these are downloadable software titles, download codes sold through retail stores have been a high proportion of sales in Japan. We believe that we have successfully created a chance to appeal to the nostalgia of consumers who played these titles when they first came out.

Next, I will describe our progress in download sales. This graph shows our download sales by quarter over the last four fiscal years. Despite coming after the holiday season, the fourth quarter had the highest sales of any quarter over the fiscal year ended March 2016. The total for the entire fiscal year was 43.9 billion yen.

The large increase in the fourth quarter this year is due to the release of downloadable content for Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U in February and downloadable content for Fire Emblem Fates that was released in the U.S. in March.

We have focused on expanding the digital business, both to keep up with changes in the industry and as a new business opportunity. This shows that we have made steady progress in the digital sphere.

Pokémon Shuffle Mobile has updated to version 1.6.0, which will bring it in line with the 3DS version. The update includes Survival Mode and Mission Cards plus UI enhancements. Both versions now completely match mechanically.

Just like in Europe, Pocket Card Jockey is slated for the North American 3DS eShop next week. It’ll be launching in both regions on April 5. 3DS owners can currently download a demo from the eShop to see what the game is all about.
