For several years, Nintendo was pursuing a new Quality of Life initiative. The goal here was to enhance the way people sleep, and as you can probably tell, it was quite a bit different from the company’s gaming plans.

Though not confirmed, Nikkei reports that the QOL department is no more. Nintendo did end up creating a prototype of a sleep monitoring device that was nearly complete. However, the project was canceled due to the product not being very “Nintendo-esque”.

Not too long ago, the Funko Pop brand added Bulbasaur to its lineup. The same product is now getting a bit of a re-release.

Funko announced today that a 10-inch version of the figure is on the way. It’ll be available starting in May, though if you want to purchase it, you’ll need to visit Target. This will be exclusive to the retailer.

Yesterday we heard that the Pichu, Isabelle, and Pokemon Trainer amiibo are landing in North America on July 26. We now have a release date for Europe as well.

These three figures are planned for July 19 in PAL regions. That’s the same day as Japan, which was previously announced.

Nintendo has dated a new trio of amiibo from the Super Smash Bros. line. Pichu, Isabelle, and Pokemon Trainer are launching on July 26.

These figures will be out a bit earlier on July 19. Nintendo has not yet provided a release date for Europe.

Mojang has announced that a movie based on Minecraft will premiere on March 4, 2022. Warner Bros. will be involved, and Peter Sollett has been confirmed as director.

Mojang says that the film follows “the story of a teenage girl and her unlikely group of adventurers. After the malevolent Ender Dragon sets out on a path of destruction, they must save their beautiful, blocky Overworld.”

Gamescom is partnering with The Game Awards executive producers Geoff Keighley and Kimmie H. Kim on a new show for the expo.

Revealed today, Gamescom: Opening Night Live announced will be held on August 19. It will produced in English and will air live in front of more than 1,000 fans in Cologne, Germany. Today’s press release states that there are plans to feature “announcements from major game publishers and independent developers, world premieres of new game footage and special guest appearances from the stars of the gaming industry.”

Following its availability in many other countries, Nintendo has now made its online store available in Israel. If you live in Israel, you can order consoles, games, amiibo, merchandise, clothing and more directly from Nintendo.

Reggie Fils-Aime

We knew this day was coming, and now it’s finally here. Reggie Fils-Aime, who spent more than 15 years at Nintendo of America and has been the company’s president for well over a decade, has retired. Today was his last day at Nintendo.

Doug Bowser is stepping into the role of president for Nintendo of America, as previously announced. Bowser previously acted as senior vice president of sales and marketing.

Reggie will definitely be missed, but he was able to depart on his own terms and he is leaving Nintendo in a good place. Now he’s earned a much-deserved break and intends to spend more time with his wife, family and friends.

Many gaming developers, industry insiders, and executives have joined social media over the years, but there’s one bigwig who has stayed away from the fun: Reggie Fils-Aime. Now that Reggie is retiring from Nintendo, he’s decided to hop on board the Twitter train. You can follow him here.
