Xbox boss praises Switch, Nintendo once again

Xbox boss Phil Spencer often tends to share positive vibes when speaking about Nintendo. On two separate occasions for example, Spencer praised Switch.
Spencer is back at it again with a new interview from Gamasutra. He finds Switch “interesting”, and likes how Nintendo is quick to innovate.
Spencer’s full words:
“Nintendo, I thought, did a cool thing with picking mobile. They kind of said okay, Switch is going to be a console that you can take with you. That’s an interesting idea. Nintendo always does cool things, right. They did the second screen with Wii U, they obviously did the Wii and motion gaming in the room. I love that innovation.
Having innovation that really brings third-parties along is critical to us, I think; Nintendo tends to have great success in their first-party on their platforms and then third-parties usually come in a little bit later, usually because Nintendo creates things that are less like other things. Which is, you know, kudos to them. I think it’s a fantastic part of the industry.”

My Nintendo adds some new rewards in North America

A few new rewards have gone up on My Nintendo in North America. Members have access to a pair of discounts and a couple of guides.
For 20 Gold Points, you can receive a 30 percent discount on Yoshi’s Island: Super Mario Advance 3. There’s also a 20 percent discount on Super Mario World for 160 Platinum Points.

Charmander returning to Build-A-Bear Workshop

At the end of last year, Build-A-Bear Workshop sold a special Charmander plush. Fans will be excited to hear that it’s being made available once again.
The make-your-own Charmander plush will be sold at all U.S. stores starting this weekend. The online exclusive is also in stock here.

Super Mario Level Up! board game releasing soon

A new Mario board game is coming from USAopoly, titled Super Mario Level Up!. You and a group of friends will “Join Mario and his pals as you advance them up the Mushroom Kingdom while challenging other players to gather the most coins and reach the castle at the top.” A 3D game board, 13 Character Movers, Power Up cards, and ? Block Chips are all included.
No word yet on a release date, but it’s “coming soon” in North America. It’ll set you back just $20.
First 4 Figures opens pre-orders for Fighter Kirby statue

After announcing the Fighter Kirby statue last week, pre-orders have now opened. As usual, two versions are up for grabs: the regular ($250) and exclusive ($270) version. Both are online here.
The two versions are pretty similar. However, the exclusive edition has LEDs in the Spin Kick, “truly bringing the entire piece to life.”

Fan remakes A Link to the Past’s soundtrack in analogue synthesizer style

In an excellent display of both Nintendo fandom and musical talent, a portion of the soundtrack from The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past has been remade with analogue synthesizers and drum machines. The end result is a truly fantastic rendition of one of the most iconic soundtracks in all of gaming.
Not only does the author of the album intend to work on recreating other SNES soundtracks, such as Donkey Kong Country and Earthbound, but royalties made through sales from this album will be given to composer Koji Kondo and Nintendo.
Switched On SNES is a series of soundtracks played on analog synthesizers and drum machines. The goal of the project is to expose listeners to the musical masterpieces that have been overlooked – mostly because of the 16bit instrumentation.
Link to the Past is the first installment of soundtracks which will include: Secret of Mana, Earthbound, Donkey Kong Country, and others. Royalties from sales will go towards the composer Koji Kondo/Nintendo.

Odd Mario commercials promote Japanese energy drink

Mario isn’t foreign to strange advertisements in Japan. You may recall that some kooky commercials were made for Mercedes-Benz a few years ago.
Mario and friends are back in action to promote Dekavita C, a Japanese energy drink. It’s not a one-sided promotion, as these new videos also show off the 3DS and highlight the recently-released Mario Sports Superstars.

NES game Mystery World Dizzy finally releases after more than two decades

Mystery World Dizzy was initially planned to hit the NES in 1993 as a port of the arcade game Fantasy World Dizzy. More than two decades later, it has finally been released in celebration of the character’s 30th birthday. You can play it in your browser right here. A Kickstarter campaign will also be taking place soon to offer an NES cartridge version.
Adding on to that, the National Videogame Arcade in Britain also has a new exhibition in place featuring organization sketches, design documents, and a recreation of the team’s original work studio. And if you want even more than that, you can pick up the book Let’s Go Dizzy: The Story of The Oliver Twins with commentary from Philip and Andrew Oliver.

Video: The making of First 4 Figures’ Fighter Kirby statue

First 4 Figures announced its latest Nintendo product yesterday: the Fighter Kirby statue. Pre-orders will be kicking off next week. To accompany the announcement, a documentary of sorts was uploaded about the statue’s creation, which we have below.
