New impossible coin discovered in Super Mario 64
Posted on 8 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, News | 7 Comments
Over the years, fans have detected coins that just can’t be collected in Super Mario 64. Now one person seems to have found another – 20 years following the game’s original launch.
Coins in Super Mario 64 spawn in sets of five. They also come in several pre-set patterns. Yet as you can see above, one area in the Tiny-Huge Island level features a line of four coins. YouTube user UncommentatedPannen has a theory about it all.
As he explains:
“I show that there’s yet another impossible coin in the game, located in the huge version of Tiny-Huge Island. Specifically, there’s a coin spawner there that’s intended to spawn 5 coins in a horizontal line on the ground. However, this coin spawner’s located under the ground, causing the most uphill coin to not load properly. In particular, this coin spawns about 49 units below the ground, triggering a failsafe that causes the coin to immediately unload. Currently, there’s no known way to collect this coin.”
A closer look at UncommentatedPannen’s findings can be found below.

Michel Ancel finds Rayman SNES ROM after more than 20 years
Posted on 8 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, News | 14 Comments
Many years ago, Ubisoft was planning a unique version of Rayman for the SNES which would have featured unique visuals as well as co-op. In the end, it unfortunately never released. But 24 years later, Rayman creator Michel Ancel managed to find the original ROM.
Ancel posted his findings on Instagram:
It’s an absolutely notable discovery for sure, and an important piece of gaming history. I’d be down for seeing it revitalized on Switch somehow!

Inti Creates wants to make a third Azure Striker Gunvolt game
Posted on 8 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in 3DS, General Nintendo, News | 4 Comments
Inti Creates has made two Azure Striker Gunvolt titles thus far. Speaking with Nintendo Everything, the studio revealed that the team is very much interested in continuing the series.
Director Yoshihisa Tsuda told us that he very much wants to make a title “that continues the series with Gunvolt at the helm as the main protagonist.” It’s something he believes can happen so long as the fan support is there. He also has “a rough idea for what I would want the potential sequel to be”.
Square Enix “committed” to releasing more Dragon Quest games overseas
Posted on 8 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, News | 20 Comments
During the DS era, several Dragon Quest games were brought to the west. The series’ overseas status has been a little shaky over the past few years, but it’s starting to look up again. Looking at Nintendo’s involvement with Dragon Quest specifically, they just shipped Dragon VII in North America and Europe last month, with Dragon Quest VIII to follow next year.
If that wasn’t enough, Square Enix’s Noriyoshi Fujimoto told MCV that the company is “committed” to Dragon Quest in the west. When asked if Dragon Quest Builders – which might be a possibility for Switch – will affect the series’ status outside of Japan, he said:
“2016 marks the 30th anniversary of Dragon Quest series. It’s not as well known in the West as we would like but it really plays an epoch making role in the console gaming history. If gamers were to ‘discover’ Dragon Quest now, they may be surprised to the sheer breadth of the universe, in terms of variety and depth. But they would also have instant access to something that has taken us 30 years to build. Dragon Quest Builders is definitely a great way of getting the feel of Dragon Quest while having great fun right from the start.
We’re committed to bringing more Dragon Quest titles in the West as we believe it truly has potential to succeed even better. So watch this space.”
Dragon Quest XI is planned for both Switch and 3DS next year. I imagine we’ll get that one somehow – be it Square Enix directly or through Nintendo publishing.
