Retro Studios president and CEO Michael Kelbaugh commented on several topics while speaking with GameSpot, including the Wii U’s technical capabilities.

According to Kelbaugh, the console is “a powerhouse”, adding, “It’s more than adequate to make great games on.”

“Unfortunately, the perception is that it’s not a very powerful machine. That’s just not true. It’s a powerhouse. It’s more than adequate to make great games on.”

Kelbaugh also mentioned that the Wii U is a “great box to make games on.”

It sounds like we could be getting a video game based on the Gravity Fall television series.

On Twitter, creator Alex Hirsch tweeted about “a brainstorm meeting” pertaining to a Gravity Falls “console game.” He also asked fans about what they’d like to see.

My guess? WayForward will end up making the Gravity Falls game with D3Publisher backing the project.

Shaq Fu’s return truly does appear to be happening. Joystiq has published a pair of t-shirts sent in by a tipster, both of which will likely be used for a marketing campaign. This is on top of Shaquille O’Neal himself stating at CES this year that Shaq Fu 2 is coming.

Of course, this doesn’t necessarily mean we’ll be seeing a new Shaq Fu game on a Nintendo platform. But given the original game’s history on the SNES and Game Boy, we’d be remiss if we didn’t make a note about today’s discovery.

Donkey Kong Country became well-known for its pre-rendered 3D visuals. However, pursuing such a style came with a heavy financial burden for Rare. For the machines the team was using, each costed about £80,000.

Former Rare staffers Brendan Gunn and David Wise opened up to Nintendo Life about Donkey Kong Country’s visuals, noting:

We haven’t heard much from Koji Igarashi in recent years, but the well-known Castlevania producer will hold a session at GDC next month.

The talk is titled “There and Back Again: Koji Igarashi’s Metroidvania Tale”. During his session, attendees will be able to join Igarashi “for an exploration of his experiences and methodology in creating some of the most popular and influential games in the genre over the last 15 years.”

Below is the official overview of Igarashi’s session:

In this week’s issue of Famitsu, Super Mario 3D World director Koichi Hayashida opened up about “Miyamoto’s Teachings”.

What the heck is that, exactly? It’s mainly a set of quotes from Shigeru Miyamoto, which has inspired Hayashida in recent years.

Siliconera has the translations of Hayashida’s comments. You can find them below.

Ubisoft’s Hugues Ricour has told Total Xbox that the company tries to make players think through the games it provides. “There’s definitely a conscious mandate to make sure we make fun experiences that focus on gameplay, that we enrich people’s lives, and that we connect them together,” he also said.

Ricour’s comments in full:

“We’re trying to make people think. There’s a bunch of other games that I won’t name where you’re very scripted and driven to just follow a path and do actions and press buttons…it’s not just making games for the sake of making games. There’s definitely a conscious mandate to make sure we make fun experiences that focus on gameplay, that we enrich people’s lives, and that we connect them together.”
