This week’s issue of Famitsu is announcing River City Ransom SP, a new title for 3DS. It’s planned as part of Kunio-kun’s 30th anniversary. Aside from new events, actions, areas, combos and systems, more content will be included compared to the original game.

River City Ransom SP will launch in Japan on April 28 for 4,500 yen. Developing is 65 percent complete.

Super Mario Maker’s latest update is now available. Version 1.30 can be accessed by booting up the game, or allowing your Wii U system to download it automatically. You can find the full patch notes after the break.

Accompanying today’s update is the introduction of the Bookmark portal site, which can be accessed here. This lets players search for courses by using a computer, tablet or smartphone.

This week’s Japanese 3DS themes include Medabots 9 and more. Here’s the full lineup:

Pokemon (x3) – 200 yen each
Medabots 9 (x3) – 200 yen each (available 12/24)
SEGA system themes (x5) – 200 yen each (available 12/23)

When Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3 originally came out on the Game Boy Advance, it supported Nintendo’s old e-Reader device. Players could scan e-Cards to add in various content, including levels.

Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3 is set to launch on the Japanese Wii U Virtual Console next week. Fortunately, it will be possible to access e-Reader levels. It seems that these can be accessed on the data select screen. Of course, the e-Reader device itself is not compatible.

As far as I can tell, there’s only one new release on the Japanese eShop next week, and that’s Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3. The game will be out on December 29 for 702 yen. I’ll update this post if I come across any additional eShop titles for Japan next week.

Jay X Townsend and Form Up Studios are bringing Near Earth Objects to the Wii U eShop next month in North America. The shooter is due out on January 14.

Here’s a brief overview:

NEOs, or ‘near earth objects’ are an emergent threat to all life on this planet. Blast off into space and destroy them all to preserve life as we know it back on Earth! Neo-retro arcade style shooting designed to challenge and enthrall. Shoot rocks, get POW. Survive.

Featuring a ’90 Euro/rave-inspired soundtrack, over 120 waves of sadistic space shootables and graphics in tribute (albeit loosely) to old CGA games, this is going to knock your socks off – hope you bought a spare pair.
