When you first pick up Year Walk, “peaceful” and “serene” are two words that may pop into your head. You find yourself in a quaint, Swedish forest in the winter, with snowflakes falling, the wind gently whispering, and ‘barely there’ atmospheric tones.

The odd sense of warm security you feel in a chilly setting is misplaced, however. Despite the calming, ambiguous way Year Walk opens, your character’s goal to eventually see into the future by partaking in a ‘vision quest’ takes a few disconcerting turns.

What I’m trying to say is that this game is going to rustle your jimmies.

Year Walk made a splash on iOS and Steam, and now it’s coming to the Wii U today. I give a brief overview of the indie adventure/horror game below.

Natsume is bringing another title to the North American Wii U Virtual Console this week. According to Nintendo’s website, Car Battler Joe is due out tomorrow for $6.99.

Here’s the official overview:

Nobody knows why your dad, champion car battler Jim Todoroki, suddenly abandoned the fastest and most popular sport in Galacia. There is a rumor going around that he’s riding around with the most ruthless car-battler gangs in the world. But is it just a rumor, or is there truth behind it?

Play as Joe Todoroki, in his quest to become a car battler—like his father before him. His mother says he has the talent, but hard work will be the payoff. Customize a vehicle in the Garage to enhance or diminish its performance. Sign up for jobs, missions, and even tournaments as Joe explores the dangerous highways and byways that surround his village. Other car battlers fight for money and fame, but Joe has a higher calling: to restore his family’s honor and bring his father home!

Ancient developed Car Battler Joe for the GBA, and it released in Japan through publisher Victor Interactive Software back in 2001. Natsume localized the title for North America a year later.

Nintendo World Report has posted fresh details about Momonga Pinball Adventures. You’ll find a summary of the article’s tidbits below.

– Story is about a small momonga (sort of squirrel) who has quite a task ahead of him
– An evil gang of owls appeared in the momonga village and started to raid every inch of it
– All animals have been taken
– Momo was saved by a panda who took him under his wing
– Momo is taught the basic principles and the panda helps him to start the long road ahead
– Various pinball stages
– Scoring points is an aspect of the game
– Your main objective to reach the top of a stage
– Enemies and obstacles will be in your way
– Life meter
– Taking too many hits forces you to start the stage over
– Plenty of collectibles to improve your final score
– Mixture between pinball and platformer games
– In some levels, you need to use Panda the panda to break the harder blocks in the environment
– Fry the firefly will also help you
– Fry can distract the evil owl troops
– This gives you the chance to defeat the harsher enemies and get ultimately closer to completing a level
-Bonus stages and bosses
– Ex: play a crazy version of pachinko and try to get the best score possible
– At another early point, you are flying to new areas with the squirrel
– You really have to time your gliding and get stars to net yourself some proper points
– Bosses require to really hit at the accurate points and they are stage gimmicks in place to make avoiding attacks possible
– Timing is the key to get anything done
– Use the ZL and ZR buttons

Nintendo released official videos for Bomberman: Panic Bomber, VS. Excitebike, and Exerion on the Japanese Wii U Virtual Console. Watch them below.

Cube Roots’ indie puzzle game Dungeon Hearts originally came out a couple of years ago. It’s now in the works for Wii U with a few new elements.

First, here’s a brief overview of the actual game:

“Dungeon Hearts fuses the strategy and pattern matching of puzzle games with the kinetic pace of action games. Align magical runes as they flow along the Fatestream to attack, defend, and conjure magic in frenetic battles against a bestiary of fantastic creatures out to use those same runes against you. Chain together multiple attacks and unleash powerful combos or call upon each hero’s special attacks to devastate your enemies to survive the twists and turns of Dungeon Heart’s evolving gameplay. Strike down all that stand in your way and level up your brave warriors as each foe grows more powerful than the last, culminating in the final battle with The Dark One himself!”

On Wii U, the title will be known as “Dungeon Hearts DX”. The team will be including new art, characters, and music, all of which are exclusive to this new release. Fans can also expect interface changes, balance to the combat, and a hub area to listen to music and manage your party. Feedback and criticism from the original Dungeon Hearts is also being considered.

Check out one of the earlier trailers for Dungeon Hearts below. The new “DX” version hits the eShop this winter.

Human Resource Machine, the newest game from Little Inferno developer Tomorrow Corporation, is launching on the Wii U eShop next month. The studio announced in a website post that it’s slated for October 15.

Human Resource Machine was originally revealed in June, though Wii U was not a confirmed platform at the time. An official description of the title reads:

Human Resource Machine is a puzzle game. In each level, your boss gives you a job. Automate it by programming your little office worker! If you succeed, you’ll be promoted up to the next level for another year of work in the vast office building. Congratulations!

Don’t worry if you’ve never programmed before – programming is just puzzle solving. If you strip away all the 1’s and 0’s and scary squiggly brackets, programming is actually simple, logical, beautiful, and something that anyone can understand and have fun with!

You can find Human Resource Machine’s original trailer below.

Thanks to Jose M for the tip.
