Minecraft: Wii U Edition – 1.8.8 update won’t be out “until some time next year”

A new update, version 1.8.8, was released for Minecraft on most consoles today. It adds new items, blocks, mocks, biomes, and plenty of other features. The patch is said to be Mojang’s “biggest update ever, bringing the console versions closer to the current PC build than they’ve ever been before.”
If you have a PlayStation or Xbox console, you can grab the patch right now. But unfortunately, Mojang says that it won’t be hitting Wii U “until some time next year.”

Japanese sales: top 10 publishers of 2015

Famitsu has shared a comprehensive listing of the top 10 publishers of 2015 based on sales in Japan. It’s not quite the full year though, as the tracking period was between December 29, 2014 and November 29, 2015.
In any case, here’s the publisher ranking:
1. Nintendo – 7.090.000
2. Bandai Namco – 4.100.000
3. Square Enix – 2.910.000
4. Capcom – 2.690.000
5. Level 5 – 2.420.000
6. Konami – 1.230.000
7. Sony Computer Entertainment – 1.120.000

Super Mario Maker version 1.30 – full patch notes, file size

Next week, Nintendo will be bringing out several new features for Super Mario Maker. We’ll be seeing some new game elements as well as the Bookmark portal site.
Below are the full patch notes for Super Mario Maker’s latest update, version 1.30:
- Add objects such as Fire Koopa Clown Car.
- Add linkage with the Super Mario Maker Bookmark portal site that will allow a more detailed course search.
- Users will no longer be able to use the words “Like”, “Yeah!”, and the “?” symbol in their course names. Please change the course name when saving a course that includes these words.
- “World Record (fastest player to clear the course)” and the “First Clear (first player to clear the course)” will be listed for each course.
- For courses that were posted prior to the Ver. 1.30 update, only the “World Record (fastest player to clear the course)” will displayed.
- Adjustments will be made to make for a more pleasant gaming experience.
Super Mario Maker will require 298MB of free space for its 1.3.0 update.

Bundles boost Wii U hardware sales in Japan

During the week of December 7, Wii U sold 47,000 units in Japan. Media Create points out that sales for the system were up 15,000 units compared to the previous week. As for the increase, that’s thanks to the bundles featuring Splatoon and Super Mario Maker. These two products sold roughly 36,000 Wii U units alone, which is a 146.06 percent rise compared to last week.

Costumes for Mr. Saturn and Master Belch coming to Super Mario Maker shortly

Nintendo isn’t slowing down with new costume additions in Super Mario Maker. Starting tomorrow in Japan (likely today in North America), you’ll be able to use new outfits based on Mr. Saturn and Master Belch from EarthBound. Trailers for each are below.
