Wii U eShop

Actos Games announces new content for their latest release, exclusively on the Wii U eShop. In this first content update players will see improved controllability, new button inputs, and a fix for some of the game’s trickier puzzles. There will also be a new puzzle added to the second level.

Here are some additional details about the upcoming update:

The new content update will be called REIGN OF THE TWIG KING, will feature not only homages to famed Nintendo games Super Metroid, but upcoming titles including indie game Ghost Song. “We really love the Metroid series of games, and the genre that came out of it called ‘metroidvania’. In REIGN OF THE TWIG KING, we can have fans who enjoy that style of gameplay experience it in psyscrolr as well.” Jonathan Meyer, CEO of Actos Games stated.

The story of REIGN OF THE TWIG KING is based around the titular villain, who has seized full control over the Badgreens, the main area of the game that the Scrolr, the hero, traverses through. It’s up to the players to find out what exactly is the Twig King as well as figure out how to defeat him in an epic boss battle. Players will also encounter a new character, Milla. A rogue Magi who is mute, she finds herself befriending the Scrolr because of it.

The new update will also include puzzles based around new powers, new friendships, and new enemies. Achievements will be added to the game, as well as a brand new hidden mini-game for players to find.

I have to confess, I’m not a fan of the Wii U’s GamePad. For a peripheral that comes with every console, very few games have justified using this massive tablet over a more conventional controller. Sure, off-TV play is great and some of the early releases like ZombiU and Game & Wario provided a nice taste of what the controller was capable of, but the GamePad as a whole smacks of wasted potential. Thankfully, next week sees the eShop release of Affordable Space Adventures, a planet-exploring puzzle game that promises to put the GamePad to good use. If any studio can use this pricey controller effectively it’s developer KnapNok Games, who previously published Spin the Bottle: Bumpie’s Party, one of the few titles that did use the GamePad in interesting ways to create an quirky co-operative experience. Joining them in this collaboration is game designer Nicklas “Nifflas” Nygren, who has produced several moody games based around exploration including Knytt Underground. These two European studios both have very different styles, so how well do they mesh and deliver on their promise that the game “truly utilizes the potential of the Wii U”?

Natsume has eight GBA Virtual Console games planned for the Wii U Virtual Console. That’s according to the company’s Graham Markay, who shared the news on the latest Fragments of Silicon podcast.

As previously mentioned, Natsume’s Virtual Console plans include the Medabots games Medabots AX and Medabots: An RPG Adventure. Pocky & Rocky with Becky is also on the way.

Markay noted in the podcast that Natsume has been working on its new Virtual Console plans “for awhile”.

We’ll begin seeing Natsume’s new Virtual Console releases on the eShop at the beginning of June.

It’s no longer possible to share screenshots from Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures over on the game’s Miiverse community. As of yesterday, the functionality has been disabled. Some players aren’t happy with the move, but there’s not much that can be done at this point!
