Tecmo Koei made a surprising announcement at Nintendo’s January 3DS conference that Dead or Alive: Dimensions would feature a stage from Other M. Yosuke Hayashi quickly clarified that Samus isn’t a playable character in the game, though he noted that the Metroid star does make an appearance as the battle takes place in the level.
Hayashi never truly explained why Samus isn’t playable in the title – until now. Speaking to IGN, Team Ninja’s boss said the team decided to include the Other M stage to celebrate the release of the first Dead or Alive game on a Nintendo platform, but wanted to make sure that the roster was comprised strictly of characters known to the series. As a result, it was not possible to add in any sort of new or guest character.
“Obviously this is the first DOA for a Nintendo platform. We wanted to commemorate this occasion with something so we decided to feature a stage crossover with Other M. The footage we released for this was a bit confusing because it didn’t allow us to show our true intentions behind having this stage in there. One thing about Samus as a playable character — for DOAD our aim was to have a compilation of DOA characters so we purposely left out any new or guest characters in the game. Samus is a lone bounty hunter and protector of the galaxy so we thought it would be better to let her focus on her job rather than kicking everyone’s butt in DOAD.”

In Dengeki Nintendo’s April issue, the magazine teased an announcement regarding a new Pokemon title. Now CoroCoro magazine is also promising a game reveal. The thing is that CoroCoro tends to feature Pokemon news first, so there’s a chance that Dengeki will be forced to delay their announcement until next month. Either way, we’ll find out in a few days if the magazine plans on revealing something, as the next issue is expected to hit store shelves soon.
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot recently provided a few comments regarding Project Cafe. Although specific information about the system’s functionality was not revealed, the remarks are interesting since Ubisoft is the first-third-party to share significant thoughts about Nintendo’s next console. Guillemot said the following on an investor’s call:
“The platform Nintendo is coming with is really a fantastic platform. We think it will be extremely successful. What we see is that we will be able to leverage a lot of the work we do for Xbox 360 and PS3 while we create games for the platform. So we will not have to redo completely the games that we create. We’ll be able to use all the capacity the console is giving but also use all the work we do for the other platforms.”
Looks like Project Cafe could be getting a decent amount of PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 games in the future. I suppose that’s not necessarily a bad thing! The Wii has missed out on some tremendous third-party releases…
12th May, 2011 – Nintendo, a worldwide pioneer in the creation of interactive entertainment and Capcom®, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games today confirmed that they have entered into a distribution agreement for the forthcoming game Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D to be made available on Nintendo 3DS. Under the terms of the agreement Nintendo will be responsible for the sales, marketing and distribution of the game throughout European territories, with Capcom remaining as publisher. Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D is scheduled for release across Europe in July this year.
Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D will join a growing number of games which have been made available since the launch of Nintendo 3DS earlier this year, which allows 3D gaming without the need for special glasses.
Yesterday an Amazon page and boxart were found for Rayman Origins on Wii. Before that, we heard that Ubisoft was planning on announcing the Wii version of the title at E3. Apparently that’s exactly what Ubisoft had in store. The company told Dutch website N1ntendo:
“Rayman Origins will also be released as a retail-game for Wii, even though this is/was supposed to be a surprise for this year’s E3.”
I suppose we’ll receive an official announcement about the game at E3. Now the only uncertainty is whether or not the DS GameStop listing was an error…
