“I do not think that there is an immediate need to replace the Wii console. But of course, at some point in the future, the need will arise. We currently do not have an answer as to what point in the future that need will come.” – Satoru Iwata

Just if I had to guess, I don’t think we’ll see a Wii successor for at least two years. I don’t think Nintendo would want to take away anything from the 3DS!

Maybe this is just me, but I think people are making too big a deal out of this. Nintendo is probably just messing around with Mother fans!

Good news, Shantae fans! It’s been a long time coming, but the next game in the series should be available very soon. The game still needs to be submitted to Nintendo, so it’s unclear when the game will be released or how much it’ll cost. With that said, Risky’s Revenge is now complete and WayForward is hoping we’ll see the game on DSiWare sometime in the next few weeks.

“…I was particularly impressed by the 3DS, and it got a great reception. It’s a brilliant product. Nintendo’s figured out the glasses–or the lack thereof–are key. The integration of the 3D camera was a brilliant move. And if they also address the piracy issues they have and upgrade the copyright protection system, I think it’s going to be a big success and draw publisher interest to put more resources against publishing a game in this platform.” – Activision chief operating officer Thomas Tippl

I was really surprised by the reaction to the 3DS. Just because it’s 3D, I expected quite a few people to be underwhelmed by that. Overall, though, the impressions were very positive.

Dunaway on the 3DS…

“We love being on the frontier. 3DS certainly is. I feel like it’s amazing. That’s what we hear most people say when they see it, ‘I can’t believe it looks this good!’. …it’s more than just the way they look, it’s the way it changes the gameplay. The fact that all of these developers would be excited about being part of Nintendo 3DS says a lot about what the potential of this hardware really is. (Alex Neuse of Gaijin Games) he is just over the moon on 3DS, and he can’t wait to do Bit.Trip.Runner ideas in 3D.”

Dunaway on the 3DS movies business model…

“We don’t know what the business model is going to be for delivering movie content, but we want people to see that this device is very capable.”

This information comes from director Hideo Kojima and other members of Konami, who were answering fan questions…

“We’re going to see what people think and feel. What [Kojima] is going to do, is decide the right direction. This was more of a 3D depth presentation. The real game won’t be like that. Your eyes get tired.”

Konami officially announced that a Metal Gear 3DS game would be coming to the system as “Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater 3D The Naked Sample.” I know people were extremely impressed with the demo at E3, so hopefully Kojima will keep that in mind when deciding what to do with his project.
