Kirby and the Forgotten Land is one of Nintendo’s major Switch games coming out within the first quarter of the year, so the company took a moment to highlight the title in its latest financial results explanatory material.

Other than that, the company also brought up the franchise in general. Kirby is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, and Nintendo said it is “planning a variety of projects in collaboration with the Kirby developer HAL Laboratory, aimed at sharing the charm of the Kirby series with many people.”

In its financial results explanatory material for the third quarter of fiscal year ending March 2022, Nintendo shared the latest on its digital sales.

While digital sales during the third quarter dropped just slightly, between October through December 2021, they rose by 31.2 percent year-on-year. According to Nintendo, there was an increase in downloadable versions of retail titles this past holiday season. Nintendo Switch Online sales also “grew steadily”.

Nintendo has commented on the sell-through of its first-party Switch games between October and December 2021.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Pokemon Shining Pearl was the highlight having moved over 11.7 million copies in its first seven weeks. Additionally, titles from previous fiscal years are performing well. 13 different games have each seen sell-through of 10 million units or more, Nintendo has confirmed.

Also worth mentioning is that Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the best-selling game ever in Japan at over 10 million units, beating Super Mario Bros. from 1985 which saw 6.81 million sales.

In its financial results explanatory material published today, Nintendo delved into Switch hardware sell-through as well as the system’s annual playing users.

As mentioned today, the system has crossed the 100 million mark and has now outsold the Wii. Nintendo stressed that it’s still combating semiconductor shortages and distribution delays, which has an impact on Switch production.

As for annual playing users, the company said: “Many people continued to play Nintendo Switch in the most recent year, and for the period of January through December of 2021, the number of annual playing users exceeded 98 million users.”

As part of its latest financial results, Nintendo has further discussed the performance of Switch. Despite a year-on-year decline in hardware, software sales went up a tick.

Nintendo also pointed out the “strong” performance of Switch OLED “in each region” since launching last October. Additionally, Pokemon Brilliant Diamond / Shining Pearl and Mario Party Superstars “got off to a good start”.

Limited Run Games has announced a physical release for Sol Cresta coming to Switch February 22.

There will be two different versions on offer; a standard edition and a limited collector’s edition. The latter will include a special box, a two-disc soundtrack, a metal replica ship, an enamel pin, a pair of medals, three acrylic standees, a set of art cards, and a 5.5-inch tall mini arcade cabinet replica with a video screen.
