Nintendo should be pleased with how Super Mario RPG is performing on Switch as the remake has already outsold the original.
As part of today’s financial results, we learned that the game has sold 3.14 million units. Believe it or not, that’s actually above what the SNES version did in its lifetime, and by quite a fair bit. The original release only sold 2.14 million. Also worth noting, the feat was done in just six weeks.
Switch has surpassed all other systems to become Japan’s best-selling gaming device ever.
Based on Nintendo’s latest financial results, Switch has sold 33.34 million units in Japan. That means it’s overtaken the Game Boy Color. The classic handheld system previously sold 32,990,000 units.
As for overall Switch sales, Nintendo reported today that the system has sold 139 million units worldwide. It’s not terribly far off from the overall goal of 155 million, which would put it past the DS and PlayStation 2.
