REDMOND, Wash.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– A new mode inspired by the iconic 1990 Nintendo World Championship event is making its way into the upcoming NES Remix 2 game, launching exclusively in the Nintendo eShop on Wii U on April 25. The original Nintendo World Championship in 1990 challenged players to achieve the highest cumulative score in three specific games using a multiplier-based scoring system. The new Championship Mode in NES Remix 2 follows a similar model, but features an updated slate of three games and a revised scoring multiplier.

Super Mario Bros. remains as one of the three games in Championship Mode, but is now joined by Super Mario Bros. 3 and Dr. Mario. Players will take on a series of three successive score-based challenges in these games to achieve a cumulative total score. Scores can be posted to Miiverse, so players can compete with friends and others who also have the game. The first NES Remix game is required to experience Championship Mode in NES Remix 2.

Earthlock: Festival of Magic has managed to reach its funding goal on Kickstarter. Just a few moments ago, the Kickstarter total surpassed $150,000. Less than two days remain in the campaign.

We should be seeing Earthlock: Festival of Magic next year. The game is slated to launch in Q2 2015 on the Wii U eShop.

Storm In a Teacup has confirmed its new project for the Wii U eShop known as “Nero”. ONM has a scoop on the game in its latest issue.

Much of Nero is shrouded in mystery, but it’s said to be a “next-generation visual novel”. Players will be taken on a first-person journey across a midnight dreamscape. Strangely, the area only seems to be inhabited by two robed figures and jellyfish.

“Let’s just say that Nero is about finding out a truth that is going to be gold through gameplay,” creative director Carlo Bianchi told ONM.

Nero will be a multiplatform release, but the Wii U version will feature a map and extra indicators on the GamePad. The screen will be clear of any on-screen UI.

You can find a trailer for Nero above. It looks interesting, to say the least!

Atlus is teaming up with Eden Industries to publish Citizens of Earth, the company announced today. We’ll be seeing the game on Wii U and 3DS (in addition to PS4, PS Vita, and PC) later this year as a digital title in both North America and Europe.

Here’s an official overview of Citizens of Earth:

You’ve just been elected Vice President of the World–what do you do now? Why, recruit your mother, brother, and 40 other Citizens of Earth to fight for you, of course!

Being the Vice President of the World means asking not what you can do for your countrymen, but what your countrymen can do for you!

The retro-inspired game begins just after the VP has won a long, drawn-out candidacy and returned to his hometown for some taxpayer-funded rest and relaxation. But after just one night passes, the VP awakens to find the world gone berserk! As elected official he has two responsibilities: investigate what’s caused people to go crazy… and delegate as much of the dirty work as possible.

We originally heard about Citizens of Earth last year. At the time, it was an independent project for Eden Industries.

Check out the official announcement below, which also includes news about a contest that will allow fans to contribute their ideas for a citizen that Eden Industries will then add to the game.
