Cadence of Hyrule

During the latest Nindies Showcase earlier in the year, Cadence of Hyrule – Crypt of the NecroDancer Featuring the Legend of Zelda was announced for Switch. At the time, Nintendo said that the game would be launching this spring.

A slight update on the game has finally been provided, as we now know for certain that the game will arrive in June. That does make sense given how spring ends during the month. A release during E3 sounds like a realistic possibility as well.

Cadence of Hyrule – Crypt of the NecroDancer Featuring The Legend of Zelda was one of the surprise announcements of the last Nintendo Direct. We now have some more details on the Japanese release of the game. Interestingly, Spike Chunsoft will publish the game in Japan, not Nintendo. The publisher opened up the game’s Japanese website today, which sadly doesn’t contain any new info. Spike Chunsoft also published the Japanese trailer for the game today, which is pretty much exactly the same as the game’s initial reveal trailer, except for the Japanese voice-over.

Cadence of Hyrule will be released this Spring.

Cadence of Hyrule is an unexpected crossover between The Legend of Zelda and Crypt of the NecroDancer. But how did that collaboration between Nintendo and Brace Yourself Games happen anyway?

We do at least know some of the backstory. Brace Yourself approached Nintendo about having Zelda characters in something such as Crypt of the NecroDancer DLC. After the two talked, it eventually ended up as a brand new game.

The developer behind Crypt of the NecroDancer unveiled its latest project today, and it’s not one that many could have seen coming. Cadence of Hyrule, which uses content from Nintendo’s historic Zelda series, launches on Switch this spring. IGN gained some additional details as to how the collaboration happened.

Brace Yourself Games founder Ryan Clark told IGN that the team approached Nintendo about possibly using Zelda as something like DLC. In the end, those talks ballooned into a brand new game.
