A couple of weeks after it appeared in the west, the 3DS remake of Luigi’s Mansion has debuted in Japan. In its first week, the game sold about 27,000 copies. Dengeki further reports a sell-through rate of 45%.
Dengeki adds that Luigi’s Mansion’s initial sales seem a bit slow given the performance of Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon. The latter game sold nearly 350,000 copies in its first week and over one million overall.
We do have to remember a couple of things here. First, many players have moved on from 3DS to Switch. We also have to keep in mind that this is ultimately a remake. It’ll be interesting to see how Luigi’s Mansion 3 does in 2019.

Nintendo Labo debuted in Japan on April 20. Through April 22, the Variety Kit sold roughly 90,000 units. The Robot Kit was significantly less popular with around 30,000 units.
According to Dengeki, Nintendo Labo only sold through 25% of its initial shipment. That tells us Nintendo sent out close to 500,000 units, but most are likely sitting on store shelves.
It’s worth pointing out that this period is a generally slow time for gaming sales in Japan. With Golden Week taking place in a few days as well as the summer approaching, sales could pick up.

The Snack World: Trejarers Gold debuted in Japan on April 12. Through April 15, the game sold about 35,000 copies. Dengeki further reports that it sold through 65% of its initial shipment.
Originally, The Snack World originally appeared on 3DS last year. It managed to sell somewhere around 100,000 copies in its first week with a 55% sell-through rate.
Given that the Switch release is an enhanced version that’s coming out a year later, The Snack World: Trejarers Gold had a pretty good debut. Sales may also receive a bump during Golden Week.

Dragon Quest Builders for Switch is one of the few entries in the franchise released in the west ahead of Japan. The Japanese release just took place on March 1.
For the week of February 26, we heard that Dragon Quest Builders sold just under 30,000 copies. Dengeki further reports that it sold through about 55% of its initial shipment in Japan.
The debut Japanese sales of Dragon Quest Builders for Switch aren’t really comparable to the initial PlayStation debut, but it’d be a bit silly to compare them in the first place. This is a somewhat late port at the end of the day, and we also can’t forget that Dragon Quest Builders 2 will be available sometime this year. Long term sales are also possible.

Mario Party: The Top 100 debuted in Japan on December 28. Through December 31, it moved a little over 50,000 copies. Dengeki further adds that the game sold through roughly 60% of its initial shipment.
We also know that Mario Party: The Top 100 sold another 50,000 copies in its second week, so sales remained very steady. Part of that is likely due to carryover from the holidays. Even so, for the kind of game it is, Nintendo is likely pleased with how it’s selling thus far.
