Famitsu conducted an interview with a couple of the developers behind Fire Emblem Heroes this month. Intelligent Systems director Kouhei Maeda and Nintendo director Shingo Matsushita were able to provide some additional insight into the mobile game.

To start out, the interview touched on how Fire Emblem Heroes came to be. Matsushita explained that when Nintendo decided to begin developing for smartphones, one of the candidates was Fire Emblem. They’ve been thinking from the beginning about making something that can allow many people to experience Fire Emblem as a strategy RPG.

Fire Emblem Heroes

Fire Emblem Heroes has received its first update. On both iOS and Android, version 1.1.0 is available.

The patch notes specifically call out two things. First, “a new event and a new feature” have been added, though specifics aren’t detailed. System improvements are implemented as well.

Fire Emblem Heroes is hosting a large-scale event, featuring eight prominent characters: Alfonse, Sharena, Ephraim, Eirika, Chrom, Lucina, Leo, and Elise.

The event will take place over 3 rounds, each lasting 45 hours. These rounds are will start on March 7th, 9th, and 11th. Players will choose which hero to support before participating, and can only change their team if their team gets knocked out.

Battles will be 3 vs. 3, where your team is composed of your main team’s leader, a friend’s main team leader, and another person from the same army. After battling, you will have to wait a while before battling again.

If you win, you will be able to cast votes for your team. You can earn more votes by having more friends (up to 10), get a voting bonus if your leader is the Hero you support, and can multiply your votes by spending Battle Flags. Battle Flags are earned by logging in and completing special Quests.

Once the event is over, you will earn rewards based on your victories, rank, and total rank. All players will earn rewards based on how many votes were cast. Those rewards are as follows:

  • 1 billion votes cast – 3 Orbs, 1 of each Great Badge
  • 3 billion votes cast – 5 Orbs, 3 of each Great Badge
  • 5 billion votes cast – 10 Orbs, 5 of each Great Badge

Start thinking about who you will support, and check out some screenshots of the event below.
