Mario Golf: Super Rush

Mario Golf: Super Rush updates

I had a good time playing Mario Golf: Super Rush earlier this year when the game launched. New modes such as Speed Golf and Battle Golf were nice additions, particularly for multiplayer matches. But after a while, I saw myself rapidly drifting away from the game and simply waiting for more updates as Nintendo promised.

I must confess that now, after all the updates, I feel a little disappointed with the game in general, and that’s what I talk about in the video below. I go over how the “free updates” model that Nintendo has been using for a while now may actually be doing more bad than good for the games developed by Camelot. You can watch the full video down below and feel free to share your experience with the game.

Just like we’ve seen over the past few months, Mario Golf: Super Rush reset its Ranked Match feature to kick off December, and players now have the chance to unlock Mario’s overalls in the game.

Obtaining this reward is actually pretty simple. You’ll just need to reach the rank of A- or above by the time December ends. You can increase your rank by playing matches, competing well against others, and defeating higher ranked opponents. After unlocking Mario’s overalls, you can go to the select screen in Mario Golf: Super Rush, hover over the character, and press the “L” button to swap outfits.

Nintendo and Camelot delivered a surprise 4.0.0 update for Mario Golf: Super Rush tonight, and we now have gameplay.

For those that missed the news, a bunch of new content has been added. The game now has Wiggler and Shy Guy as new playable characters, Shelltop Sanctuary and All-Star Summit courses, Target Golf and One-On, One-Putt modes, and more. You can find the full patch notes here in case you missed it.

Mario Party Superstars review

System: Switch
Release date: October 29, 2021
Developer: NDcube
Publisher: Nintendo

I’m a big believer that the best board games are those that remain exciting and engaging regardless of whether you’re in first place or fourth – a simple enough concept on paper, yet one that’s not always so easy to execute. But Mario Party has (almost) always excelled at providing the sort of unpredictable, chaotic multiplayer experience that can deliver ample opportunities for family fun, thanks in no small part to its polished mechanics and varied mini games. Recent games in the series haven’t always hit this mark, though – Mario Party 9 and 10 scrapped the standard board game progression in favor of a controversial “travel-as-a-group” gameplay flow, and Super Mario Party alienated many handheld players with its high reliance on motion controls. Now with the release of Mario Party Superstars, Nintendo is returning to what worked by bringing back mini games, boards and mechanics from older games in the franchise – but is that enough to reinvigorate this over twenty-year-old franchise for modern players?

mario golf super rush koopa troopa

Nintendo and Camelot have reset the Ranked Match feature for Mario Golf: Super Rush to kick off November, and players can now claim new colors for Koopa Troopa as a reward. The latest options include red, blue, and yellow.

Mario Golf: Super Rush has its Ranked Match reset when a new month starts, offering players a chance to earn a reward. The new Koopa Troopa colors can be claimed by reaching the rank of A- before the end of the month – which can be easily done by playing a few matches. Once unlocked, head on over to the select screen in Mario Golf: Super Rush, hover over Koopa Troopa, and continue pressing the “L” button to pick the color of your choice.

mario golf super rush toad

Mario Golf: Super Rush is now letting players earn different colors for Toad. This comes as part of the game’s Ranked Match for October.

Each time a new month rolls in for Mario Golf: Super Rush, the Ranked Match resets and players can earn a new reward. Toad variations are the featured reward this time around, as players can choose between blue, green, and yellow if they reach a high enough rank. You only need to hit the A- rank for the color options to unlock, though you’ll need to do so by the end of the month. On the character select screen in Mario Golf: Super Rush, if you hover over Toad, keep pressing the “L” button to cycle through the color options.

We have more insights from the Mario Golf: Super Rush development team in which key developers discussed Battle Golf, Adventure Mode, new characters, and fashion.

Yesterday we posted the first half of the Nintendo Dream interview with some of the lead staff on Mario Golf: Super Rush, which covered the team’s approach to new entries in the franchise, opening cinematics in Mario sports games and much more. In the second half of the interview, the team goes on to talk about other aspects.

Here’s the rest of the translation:

A few developers behind Mario Golf: Super Rush have opened up about the game, including how the title came to be and the series’ history, the opening movie, Swing Mode, change in mechanics the franchise has seen previously, and more.

You may recall that we recently posted some excerpts from a Nintendo Dream interview conducted an interview with some of the lead staff involved with the development of Mario Golf: Super Rush. Camelot’s Hiroyuki Takahashi (Producer) and Shugo Takahashi (Director), along with Nintendo’s Shinya Saito (Producer) and Tomohiro Yamamura (Director) gave readers a peak behind the development curtain by talking through their experiences making the game.

Since the interview is quite lengthy, we’ve decided to split it up into two parts. Our translation of the first half can be read below.
