Mario Kart 8

Mario Kart ‘s first big DLC release is upon us and is available for download in all regions. The update comes in at 221MB and while the full change log is not available yet, we know that it grants access to the first DLC pack (once purchased) as well as adding amiibo support. For those downloading the DLC, it’s an additional 687MB

Back in August, Nintendo teamed up with Mercedes-Benz for the release of free Mario Kart 8 DLC. The original announcement was accompanied by a rather strange commercial. If you missed it, feel free to check out the video right here.

Mercedes-Benz is back with another two Mario/Mario Kart 8-related commercials that are being used to promote the GLA class model. You’ll find both below. One is for Luigi, whereas the other is for Peach.

Pre-orders for the Wii U version of Super Smash Bros. have exceeded those of Mario Kart 8, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime has revealed. Reservations thus far have managed to set a record for Wii U.

Fils-Aime told Bloomberg News:

“The launch of Mario Kart 8 has essentially doubled our Wii U sales year-on-year. Presales for Smash are stronger than the presales for Kart. So our expectation is that the sell-through for Smash is going to be very strong, certainly on par with what we saw with Mario Kart 8. We think the impact on hardware will be similarly dramatic.”

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U launches on November 21 in North America.

Nintendo’s Japanese amiibo website confirms additional functionality for some figures.

First, Toon Link will be compatible in Mario Kart 8 – likely another Mii costume. Toon Link, Zelda, and Sheik are also supported in Hyrule Warriors.

You may recall that Nintendo announced amiibo functionality for all of the Smash Bros. figures in Hyrule Warriors during last week’s Nintendo Direct. However, it seems that Toon Link, Zelda, and Sheik will offer unique functionality rather than randomly selected materials, weapons and rupees.

Yesterday we learned that the downloadable content in Mario Kart 8 will be compatible online, but it won’t work if anyone in the online lobby doesn’t have it. Nintendo has since shared additional details about how the DLC functions over the Internet.

You’ll have two options when going online. It will be possible to play with the original 32 courses or with all 40 courses. When creating a tournament, you’ll again be able to select 32 or 40 courses, though you can also select to only play the DLC stages. Everyone will need the DLC if you decide to create a tournament with all 40 courses.

The one thing you’ll never have to worry about is someone being kicked out of a lobby because they don’t have the new content. Furthermore, those with the DLC won’t be disrupted because other people didn’t get the new courses.
