The situation with Switch’s SNES controllers have been a point of frustration for some fans. After they sold out, Nintendo promised it would have news about the Switch Online benefit sometime in January. The controller was actually restocked today – yet only very briefly. And it’s been mostly radio silence from Nintendo on the whole as the month draws to a close.

Nintendo has now updated the official store page again, stating that news is coming in February. We can’t held but wonder if today’s “restock” was accidental. Given how it wasn’t available after more than a few minutes, perhaps we’ll see true availability sometime next month.

The Nintendo Switch Online SNES controller has been out of stock for quite some time, but Nintendo promised an update for January. Although the month is almost over, there’s finally some good news.

Nintendo Switch Online can purchase the SNES controller once again. It’s back in stock on Nintendo’s website here. Just like last time, pricing is set at $29.99.

Another Super Smash Bros. Ultimate bonus is now available for Nintendo Switch Online members. If you’re an active subscriber, you can get your hands on the Spirit Board Challenge Pack 4.

It includes the following:

Much like its SNES equivalent, the NES – Nintendo Switch Online app has received its latest update. Switch owners can now access version 4.1.0.

Starting today, Crystalis and Journey to Silius can be played in the North American and European versions of the app. Find some additional information about both below.

The SNES – Nintendo Switch Online app has updated with the newest set of games. Version 1.1.0 went live earlier today, and can be downloaded now.

Hello my 8-bit and 16-bit beauties. This week on NEP, we accidentally pitch our ideas for the next Luigi’s Mansion game (and the next) in a fervor of excitement. Then, Oni Dino is excited about Heroland while Galen critiques Bioware’s Anthem. Oni Dino goes on to talk his love for Breath of Fire II and Galen muses on the “Zelda II Maker” update we received in Super Mario Maker 2, and what Maker could be next. We then read some listener mail leading into next week’s The Game Awards, a New Year Nintendo Direct and Super Mario Sunshine… 2?

If you’re enjoying NEP, please consider giving us a 5 star review on Apple Podcasts, aka new iTunes. It’s incredibly helpful in getting us exposed to new listeners through algorithms, so we would greatly appreciate your help. Thank you for listening!

Update (12/5): The offer is now live and can be found here.

Original (12/4): As we wait for a restock on the Nintendo Switch Online SNES controllers, we do have some news in a related area. Nintendo has announced that it will be offering a 50 percent discount on the Switch NES controllers. The discount will be held on the company’s website between December 5 and January 10.

Normally, the controller goes for $59.99. However, during the sale, Nintendo Switch Online subscribers can make a purchase for only $29.99.

Nintendo is holding the sale to celebrate 50 NES games having been added to the Switch Online library. New NES and SNES releases were just announced for the service.

Nintendo announced today that the Switch Online service will finally be updated next week with new games. As we’ve sometimes seen before, there are different plans for the west and Japan.

North America (and presumably Europe) is getting Star Fox 2, Kirby Super Star, Super Punch-Out!!, and Breath of Fire II. In Japan though, the latter two games won’t be offered. Also, overseas Switch owners will be receiving Crystalis and Journey to Silius, but Japan swaps those out for Famicom Wars and Route-16.

The nice thing about Nintendo Switch Online is that the service is region-free. Both the SNES and NES apps can be downloaded and played in different regions. This technically allows for all of the games mentioned above to be played regardless of region.
