Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai DX will no longer be releasing this month as originally planned. Today, SEGA announced that the 3DS title will now arrive on September 8 in North America and September 11 in Europe.

SEGA has also revealed a new North American “Launch Edition” for Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai DX. It’ll come with the game itself, premium outer box packaging, and a 3-foot wallet chain designed after Hatsune Miku’s iconic belt. Additionally, all copies of the game will include 19 double-sided augmented reality (AR) cards that show off additional dance moves and costumes.

You’ll find additional details about Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai DX along with screenshots below.

In collaboration with Good Smile Company, a popular Japanese figure company, Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai DX features Miku and all of her friends in their Nendoroid figure style. The game features 48 full-length versions of fan-favorite songs players can challenge themselves with by trying to match the rhythm in “Tap Mode” and “Button Mode,” each with multiple difficulty levels, which can be further augmented with challenge and support items.

But the rhythm game is just one facet of Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai DX – players can also customize a virtual apartment for their favorite Miku character with decorations, seasonal items, and more. The Mirai Theater has replay functions so players can watch their favorite videos and add scrolling commentary. Choreograph entirely new routines by making new moves in the Dance Studio, and compose brand new song phrases in My Tune. This info can all be shared on customizable Profile Cards, which can be shared via StreetPass and kept current via SpotPass.

Famitsu is following up on its coverage of Fire Emblem If last week with another update on the 3DS game. It’s revealed that the Weapon Triangle is seeing some changes, and we have information about new characters. All of the new details are rounded up below.

– Weapon Triangle has been a mainstay since 1996
– Changed from the standard swords over axes over lances to swords and magic, over axes and bows, over lances and dark weapons
– In other words, swords and magic are stronger than axes and bows; axes and bows are stronger than lances and dark weapons; lances and dark weapons are stronger than swords and magic
– As Fire Emblem If doesn’t feature weapon durability, the stronger the weapon, the larger the unit’s disadvantage in terms of abilities
– Ex: the Bronze Sword has no chance of landing a Critical hit, but has +10 Critical evasion, while the stronger Steel Sword has -5 evasion and makes it hard to use a Pursuit attack
– Only staffs restrict the amount of times they can be used
– New characters:

Felicia (voiced by Nozomi Sasaki) – A maid.
Joker (voiced by Junichi Suwabe) – A butler.
Gunther (voiced by Rokuro Naya) – A great butler.
Suzukaze (voiced by Daisuke Ono)
Saizou (voiced by Tarusuke Shingaki)
Kagerou (voiced by Rie Murakawa) – A shinobi.

– Felicia, Joker, Gunther, and Suzukaze appear as allies in both the White Night Kingdom and Dark Night Kingdom versions of the game
– Saizou and Kagerou are allies in the White Night Kingdom version
– Maids, butlers, and shinobi use dark weapons
– Dark weapons have weakening effects on enemy abilities when attacked
– Game has different weapons that can be used in each version

Nintendo has confirmed to IGN that president and CEO Satoru Iwata will not be attending E3 2015 this year. However, Shigeru Miyaomto and other developers will be on hand at next month’s expo.

In a statement, Nintendo said:

Nintendo’s focus for E3 this year will be showcasing the many games we have coming for both Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. Mr. Miyamoto and other members of our development team will be in Los Angeles to explain these games and the unique experiences that each offers. Mr. Iwata’s focus in this period will be on other areas of our business that require his presence in Japan.

Nintendo also said that Iwata will be in “constant contact” with the away team in Los Angeles. He’ll also be monitoring the reaction to Nintendo’s announcements.

You may recall that Iwata skipped last year’s E3 as well. That was in large part due to health issues he was experiencing at the time.

MCV had the chance to sit down with Chandra Nair, Nintendo UK’s marketing manager, to talk about Splatoon. Some excerpts from the interview:

On why a new IP was needed for this game:

“If that idea is best realised with an existing set of characters and an existing universe then perhaps that’s the direction the project will go in. It’s all about the idea and how it’s best turned into a great game. With Splatoon it just so happens that the mechanic of travelling through ink before bursting out and shooting begged for Inklings and Octopians, and for a very different premise to what other Nintendo IP could provide. And so, we have a brand new IP.”

On the fact that Splatoon targets a similar audience to Mario Kart 8 and on Nintendo’s marketing push:

“And by that I mean everyone. We have TV campaigns for kids, 12 to 25 year-old boys, Nintendo gamers and the wider gaming fraternity. We’re targeting Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros owners but we’re using this opportunity to talk to lapsed Nintendo fans, too. Wii U has a fantastic software line-up and there really is something for everyone. There are a whole load of non-Wii U owning, lapsed Nintendo fans out there who will be tipped over the edge by Splatoon.”

On amiibo:

“I genuinely don’t know what the magic element is. It’s classic Nintendo though, that spark of magic that you can’t quite explain but just is. As soon as I saw the Inkling Amiibo I wanted them in the same way that I wanted the Yoshi’s Wooly World Amiibo; the same way I needed Charizard and Toon Link… and all the others. Aaarrgghh, damn you Amiibo.”

On the game’s singleplayer modes:

“But there will be a satisfying single-player aspect that sees characters taking part in more traditional challenges. Three Amiibo also unlock a further 60 challenges. Splatoon is a game that you can enjoy on your own or with a friend in the same room. But it comes into its own online.”

The most recent issue of Famitsu has an interview with Tetsuya Takahashi, the executive director for Xenoblade Chronicles X. One of the topics the magazine touched on regularly was the Skells – otherwise known as Dolls.

Regarding what Monolith Soft ordered from Skell designer Takayuki Yanase, Takahashi said: “We ordered frame structures that are easy to design, easy for us to create and easy to turn into 3D.”

Xenoblade Chronicles 3D debuted on the New 3DS last month as the system’s first “exclusive” game. How did it perform on the market?

Xenoblade Chronicles 3D didn’t make the top ten NPD chart, but Nintendo said it was the fifth best-selling game in the U.S. during April if you do not combine sales for platforms. Thanks to “creamsugar”, who often leaks sales data, it’s also now known that the game sold under 75,000 copies.

All things considered, Xenoblade Chronicles 3D sold fine. The New 3DS has a very small userbase, and Xenoblade is more of a niche game. It’s also a port of a game that’s a few years old.

Thanks to Jake for the tip.

No weekly Just a Chat, but you can catch up on the E3-specific discussion Austin and I held earlier this week. It’s probably a good thing we got that in on Wednesday since whatever I’ve come down with has taken a lot out of me. Being sick isn’t fun!

Nintendo shared some pretty big news about its E3 2015 plans today, so Brian and Austin talk about it all in this episode of Just a Chat. That includes the Nintendo World Championships and Digital Event. There’s also some discussion about what Nintendo may/may not show during its presentation and more!
