F.I.S.T.: Forged in Shadow Torch review

System: Switch
Release Date: July 12, 2022
Developer: TiGames
Publisher: Astrolabe Games

Metroidvania games have seen a small surge since the release of Metroid Dread. With no small sampling of offerings, F.I.S.T.: Forged in Shadow Torch arrives at a great time in the Switch’s life cycle – a point where the library of most players has been filled out with first-party titles and are itching for something new before the next big game drops. While the game has been out on other platforms since last year (with great ratings, even!) how does the Switch version compare?

Disney Speedstorm Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

Disney Speedstorm will be appearing on Switch later this summer, but as a kart racer, it has fierce competition on the console as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has proven to be a juggernaut. That being said, the team at Gameloft believes there are enough differences between the games to make the Disney and Pixar racer stand out.

Gameloft Barcelona game manager Aska Suzuki spoke to us about a few aspects such as how there are four character classes in the game and everyone on the roster has specific power-ups. Of course, simply having Disney and Pixar representation is a straightforward but appealing aspect. Updates and season passes are also planned, so players can look forward to additional content to follow after launch with new racers and more.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land

Even though Kirby has been around for three decades, the series never really tried its hand at full-on 3D gameplay. That finally changed this year with the release of Kirby and the Forgotten Land. By all accounts, the team really nailed it – but that doesn’t mean turning Kirby from 2D to 3D was a simple task.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land co-directors Shinya Kumazaki and Tatsuya Kamiyama reflected on the game’s development in a recent interview of Japanese magazine Nintendo Dream. Designer Yuki Endo was present for the discussion as well.

Ultra Kaiju Monster Rancher English

Original (6/29): Ultra Kaiju Monster Rancher will be seeing an English release, Bandai Namco has revealed.

The company’s South Asian division often handles English localization of Japanese-only titles. It turns out that this will be the case once again. Thankfully, since Switch is region free, fans in the west will be able to import a copy and play through the game as they would any other title.

Annapurna Interactive and Giant Squid have officially confirmed that The Pathless is making its way to Switch. It will be available this winter.

A rating for a Switch version of The Pathless popped up back in April. However, today marks the first time we’ve received proper confirmation.

Thirsty Suitors

Thirsty Suitors will be released on Switch, publisher Annapurna Interactive and developer Outerloop Games have confirmed. A release window has not yet been set.

Here’s an overview of the game:

Annapurna Interactive Showcase 2022 live stream

With the Annapurna Interactive Showcase 2022 set to begin not too long from now, we’ve set up a live stream for the event. It’ll begin at 12 PM PT / 3 PM ET / 8 PM in the UK / 9 PM in Europe.

The publisher has teased reveals, announcements, and more. Annapurna has shown a lot of love for Switch over the years, so we should be seeing at least some titles that are planned for Nintendo’s console during the presentation.

Steam Switch NES, SNES, N64, and SEGA Genesis controllers

Steam users can use a bunch of additional Switch controllers while playing games on the service as the NES, SNES, N64, and SEGA Genesis options are now supported. All of these products have been released as part of Nintendo Switch Online. Valve spokesperson Kaci Aitchison Boyle has confirmed the news officially.

Prior to today, Steam did already have a bit of Switch support. Back in 2018, support was added so that the Pro Controller could be used with the service.
