Data from the December 2018 NPD report continues to roll in. Our next update specifically concerns hardware sales.
In 2018, we now know that Switch was the year’s best-selling hardware platform in terms of both units and dollars. Furthermore, unit and dollar sales are the highest annual total for any hardware platform since the PlayStation 4 in 2015.
Thanks to Smash Bros. Ultimate, December was a huge month for Nintendo. Switch generated the highest December month hardware dollar sales for a single platform since the Wii in December 2009. It also saw the highest December unit sales for a single platform since 2010.

More data is in for this month’s NPD report. Specifically, we have information on the performance of two Nintendo games.
First, the packaged software launch month dollar sales of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate exceeded those of the previous best in franchise history, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, by over 70 percent. As previously mentioned, it debuted at the top spot for December. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate also set a new launch month dollar sales record for a platform exclusive in video game history, exceeding the launch month dollar sales of 2010’s Halo: Reach.
Additionally, Mario Kart 8 finished 2018 as the second best-selling racing game of all time. It only trails Mario Kart Wii in lifetime dollar sales.

HORI making new Splatoon 2 and Super Mario playstands for Switch

HORI will soon be releasing a pair of new, officially-licensed playstands for Switch. One is styled after Splatoon 2, while the other carries a Splatoon 2 theme.
The stands allow users to play at an angle without having to hold the system as it’s charging. You can also fold it up for easy portability.
Play-Asia is taking pre-orders for both stands here. They’re tentatively scheduled for the end of March.

Pokemon GO Community Day to feature Swinub in February 2019

Niantic has confirmed that Swinub will be the next Pokemon featured for Pokemon GO Community Day next month. The fun will take place on February 16.
Per usual, Swinub will have an unspecified exclusive move for the event. Fans can also count on 3x catch Stardust and 3-hour Lures.

Pokemon Quest surpasses 10 million downloads and $9.5 million in player spending on mobile

Pokemon Quest has been out for just over half a year. It’s easy to forget, but there’s a mobile version in addition to the Switch release. Sensor Tower is taking a closer look at the mobile side of things today to see how it’s performed.
Since launching last June, Pokemon Quest has seen 10 million installs globally. It has also generated roughly $9.5 million on the App Store and Google Play.
