Switch dev talk – 50,000 yen for a kit, Capcom wants to make AAA games, much more
Posted on 8 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Switch | 55 Comments
Earlier today, the Game Creators Conference was held in Japan. At the event, Nintendo’s Masaru Mitsuyoshi held a joint session with Capcom’s Masaru Ijuin about Switch.
One big thing to get out of the way: Switch development kits. These are planned for a cost of roughly 50,000 yen. If you’re doing a direct conversion, that’d be about $450 / $500.
Originally, the Joy-Con controllers were still in the research phase and weren’t included in the explanation document. Ijuin from Capcom said that there was only a touch panel form factor and nothing like the Joy-Con. Because of that, he wasn’t sure in what way the device would be portable. Then after the Joy-Con appeared, he thought “I got it!”.

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 3 Professional sold through 90% of its initial shipment
Posted on 8 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in 3DS, News | 4 Comments
In its first week, Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 3 Professional sold around 125,000 copies in Japan. Dengeki now provides us with additional details about the game’s performance.
Joker 3 Professional sold less than DS’ Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 Professional, which achieved first week sales of 164,000 copies and 638,000 units lifetime. However, it did manage to sell through 90 percent of its initial shipment.
The sales ratio between Joker 2 Professional and original Joker 2 (lifetime sales of 1.32 million) was 48.3 percent. Considering how the original Joker 3’s lifetime sales were 660,000, total sales for the new Professional version would be expected at 318,000 copies. The important point will be whether Square Enix can attract new users in addition to the existing players.
