RIVE is the last game from Toki Tori developer Two Tribes. The studio has been working on its upcoming project for a couple of years, and previously announced plans for Wii U. It’s shaping up to release in September, but there’s a chance that Nintendo’s current-gen console may be off the table.

Two Tribes co-founder Collin van Ginkel told Nintendo Life:

“It’s very important to us that Nintendo users will get a great version of RIVE, but unfortunately we don’t know at this point when or how we’ll be able to deliver this. There are two main reasons for this, one technical and one business related.

The Nindies demo in 2015 was specifically optimized to perform well in hand-picked levels and didn’t manage 60FPS consistently. We’ve added a lot of stuff since then and we haven’t been able to reach the performance level required yet. We won’t release RIVE unless it’s a solid 60FPS, and if that means delaying it to a future platform, we will make that call and make sure Nintendo fans get the perfect experience.

The market has also changed. The game was supposed to ship over a year and a half ago, and things are a lot different now. Nintendo is exiting the Wii U market early in favor of the NX which means a long tail in sales is not looking likely. So that is the business part; do you release a game on a platform in its last days or on a new one that’s better suited and can reach gamers for years to come?”

When asked how long it’ll be before RIVE hits Nintendo hardware, van Ginkel said: “At the moment I can’t easily answer that. We’re going to try one last time to perfect the Wii U version, but if that fails we’ll need to focus on the future.”

Power Disc Slam has finally been dated for Europe. The game is just a few days away from release, as it should be out on July 28 for €11.99.

Here’s a brief overview for those who haven’t been keeping track of Power Disc Slam:

“Power Disc Slam brings elements of air hockey and throws human players into the mix to create a macro version of the classic game. A wealth of power ups and special challenge levels stir up the gameplay to bring air hockey screaming into the 21st century.”

Power Disc Slam doesn’t have a date in North America as of now, but it should drop soon hopefully.

Splatoon’s final Splatfest drew to a close yesterday. Even though the dust has settled on the last major event, Nintendo ended up making two notable changes to the game.

First, players are now given more bonus points for winning a Regular Battle, earning 1000 points per win (compared to the previous 300). We’re also hearing that by coming out on top in 30 matches, you can acquire a Sea Snail. Judd will keep track of how many battles you win. Talking to him is how you’ll obtain Super Sea Snails.

Nintendo made an announcement a couple of weeks ago that not many saw coming. In November, the company will be bringing back the NES. Nintendo is readying a mini version of its classic console as a plug-and-play device under the name “Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition”.

The NES Classic Edition will cost $60, but you’re getting quite a lot for that price. 30 games are included in the box, meaning its $2 for each one. There are some absolute classics in there such as Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, and much more.

How’s everyone feeling about the NES Classic Edition? Will you be picking up one come November? Would you be interested in seeing Nintendo adopt the same idea for some other older systems? Tell us your thoughts below!
