It’s now December 6 in Japan. That means, had he still been with us, Satoru Iwata’s 56th birthday would have been today. Although he’s passed on, we can take a moment to remember him as a person as well as all of the things he contributed to the gaming industry.

Xenoblade Chronicles X Special Edition’s soundtrack has buggy DRM
Posted on 9 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Wii U | 61 Comments
Just a few hours ago, we brought up some of the problems with the Xenoblade Chronicles X Special Edition – specifically the USB drive. This is where the included ten music tracks can be found. To actually access them, you’ll need to start up the “Soundtrack” executable file, which is essentially digital rights managements from Kakasoft. It’s not possible to easily access the music files through normal means (you’ll need to use a different program to extract them).
Unfortunately, it seems as though there are also issues with the implementation of Kakasoft’s program. Reddit user CSFFlame discovered that when booting it up, it “mounts the encrypted folder on the Y drive, then edits the group policy for your computer to block system access to the drive, then edits the registry to hide the drive.” These modifications are not reverted, so it’s impossible to use the drive unless you change things back yourself. This can be a problem in business environments which use drive letters at the end of the alphabet (via Reddit’s WillAdams), so it might not be the best idea to try listening to Xenoblade Chronicles X’s music at work.
There is good news though! CSFFlame successfully discovered a way to restore things to the way they were originally on Win7x64, which will hopefully come in handy to at least some of you. Note that this shouldn’t be a problem for Mac or Linux users since the soundtrack is incompatible with these devices.
Head past the break for CSFFlame’s instructions – follow them at your own risk!

Splatoon’s latest North American Splatfest is running right now, and it’s all about food. Nintendo has now announced the next competition for Europe which carries a similar theme.
European Splatoon players can play the new Splatfest starting next Saturday. The topic asks players if they like putting pineapples on pizza or not.
Here’s the news from Nintendo of Europe’s GTwitter:

Canvaleon’s free DLC now coming this month
Posted on 9 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Wii U eShop | 1 Comment
Some of you may recall that free DLC was planned for the Wii U eShop title Canvaleon. In October, a November launch had been announced for the content. But that month came and went though without any news from developer OXiAB Game Studio.
We still don’t have an exact date yet, but the DLC is now targeted for “the Christmas Season.” Canvaleon is also coming to additional territories this month. Cyprus, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Slovakia, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary, and Romania will have the game on December 10. A release in Germany, Australia and New Zealand will also be happening later this month.
Here’s a refresher of what’s included in Canvaleon’s upcoming DLC:

FAST Racing Neo file size

FAST Racing Neo will debut on the Wii U eShop next week. The game requires 590MB to download, and is reduced to 556MB when actually installed. That’s quite small given its scope!

Go! Go! Kokopolo 3D is still happening
Posted on 9 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in 3DS eShop, News | 0 comments
Go! Go! Kokopolo 3D, a sequel to the well-received DSiWare release of a similar name, was revealed way back in June 2012. Relatively little has been said about it since.
We still don’t know a heck of a lot about Go! Go! Kokopolo 3D, but Circle Entertainment – who is involved with the project – claims it’s still in the works. The company indicated that the game remains in development and is being improved.
Circle posted the following on Twitter yesterday:
Some fans concern about Go!Go!Kokopolo 3DS, we want to clarify it here, the game still on development and being better, pls be patient 🙂

Xenoblade Chronicles X Special Edition – USB drive tidbits, reversible cover
Posted on 9 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Wii U | 9 Comments
It’s been a long wait, but Xenoblade Chronicles X finally made it out yesterday in North America (and Europe). Consumers have been able to choose between a standard version or the “Special Edition” at retail. There are some interesting things about the latter package that I wanted to bring up.
First, let’s talk about the USB drive. Although Nintendo never said how much space was included, we now know that its capacity is 800MB. There’s a selection of music tracks included as well, but its implementation is a bit clumsy.
