Latest Nintendo financial results briefing Q&A live in English

Last week, Nintendo held its latest financial results briefing. The presentation transcript has been up for several days in English, but we’ve been waiting for the Q&A to receive the same treatment. That’s now gone live right here. There’s nothing overly major beyond what we’ve already covered – in summary form and translations of various answers – but some of you may find it to be an interesting read nonetheless.
October Japanese software sales: Mario Maker and 3DS, most games sold by Nintendo

Famitsu published a new report based on sales gathered from October. We don’t have the top 30 software charts just yet – that will be a few weeks – though we do have a few other pieces of data.
First up, here’s a look at the best-selling software for the month:
[PSV] Tokyo Xanadu: 115.973
[PS3] Winning Eleven 2016: 92.756
[WIU] Super Mario Maker: 92.663
[3DS] 7th Dragon III: Code VFD: 85.298
[3DS] Yokai Watch Busters: White Dog Squad/Red Cat Team: 80.486
[PS4] Winning Eleven 2016: 66.000 (estimate)
[3DS] The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes: 59.000 (estimate)
[3DS] Picross 3D 2: 55.000 (estimate)
And the best-selling hardware:
PlayStation 4: 118.881 (90.425 sold on September)
Nintendo 3DS: 86.998 (110.670 sold on September)
Last but not least, here’s a look at sales for the biggest publishers:
Nintendo: 441.000
Konami: 209.000
Koei Tecmo: 162.000
Note that these numbers are based on data collected between September 28 and October 25.

SEGA sales see a slight decline, but profits rise

SEGA is one of the latest video game publishers to have reported its financial results. Between April and September, the company’s sales saw a bit of a dip while profits increased year-over-year.
SEGA’s net sales landed at $1.2 billion for the period, which is a 2.5 percent decrease compared to the same period last year. However, profits were at $7.9 million, a significant improvement given last year’s loss of $23 million. One reason for the decrease in sales is because SEGA didn’t bring out any major titles.
New Ratchet & Clank game has a Star Fox reference

The new Ratchet & Clank game for PlayStation 4 features a noticeable reference to Star Fox. In the video below, you can hear one of the characters calling out to the main player to “do a barrel roll”. Of course, that’s one of the most recognizable lines in Star Fox’s history!

Buy 2, get 1 free on all games at Target starting on Sunday

Next weekend, Target will be hosting a buy 2, get 1 free sale. This applies to all games sold by the retailer, so every Wii U and 3DS title should be eligible. Some of you may want to pick up the likes of Yo-kai Watch or Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival with the offer.
Target’s sale will begin on November 8. It’ll last through November 14.
A look at Nintendo’s original news release for the NES and more

On Twitter, collector and games archivist Steve Lin has been sharing some interesting paperwork from the NES days. We have a look at the original news release above, and several other items below.
One document is for research Nintendo conducted in January/February of 1986. In it, it’s shown that R.O.B. was one of the leading reasons why kids were so interested in the console.
