Donkey Kong theme park delay

The upcoming Donkey Kong expansion for Super Nintendo World in Japan has been delayed. In a message on social media, it was announced that the park is now opening in late 2024.

Originally, the Donkey Kong expansion was on track for a Spring 2024 debut. A reason for the delay was not provided. The message contained an apology to those interested in the theme park.

A new physical reward just went up on My Nintendo based on Animal Crossing: New Horizons. If you have some Platinum Points lying around, you can get your hands on a leaf bandana.

The bandana is inspired by Nook Inc. and is decked out with leaves. It’s 100% polyester and measures 23”x 16”. You can use it to tie something together, as a hair accessory, and more.

Nintendo Gamescom 2024

Nintendo will not be attending Gamescom 2024. That’s according to Games Wirtschaft, who received an official statement from a representative involved with the event.

Nintendo used to be a staple of Gamescom, but that started to change following covid. Gamescom 2023 was the first time in four years that the company attended. Nintendo’s booth featured both its own games as well as offerings from third-parties, plus tournaments and more. Additionally, it was claimed that some developers were treated to behind-closed-doors showings of the Switch successor.

Switch emulators Suyu and Sudachi

The Verge is reporting that Discord servers for Suyu and Sudachi, a pair of Switch emulators, have been taken offline. Additionally, their lead developers’ accounts are now entirely disabled.

Discord director of product communications Kellyn Slone said in a statement:

Ori 3

Although Moon Studios has ideas for Ori 3, fans shouldn’t expect to see it anytime soon.

Studio CEO and creative director Thomas Mahler told Game Informer that he actually has a title in mind for a third entry. However, he mentioned that the company is currently focusing on its next game, No Rest for the Wicked.

Most useless amiibo list

Ever since their original release, amiibo figures have been more popular as fancy little shelfwarmers than in-game content bonuses. Nintendo certainly acknowledges this, too – whereas characters like Mario work across multiple games, other, more specific characters only serve a single purpose. Today, we’re looking at the most useless amiibo ever released and what they do in their corresponding game. Do note, there are several Super Smash Bros. series amiibo whose only purpose is amiibo training. This compatibility is actually too useful for our purposes, so we’ll only be talking about useless amiibo that do even less than that.

Triple-i Initiative

Some of the best independent video games developers are coming together on the Triple-i Initiative, a new digital showcase. It will air on April 10 at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET / 6 PM in the UK / 7 PM in Europe.

The showcase will feature over 30 games from studios and publishers who worked on the likes of Darkest Dungeon, Spiritfarer, V Rising, and Risk of Rain 2. The event will be “a no-nonsense digital showcase featuring blockbuster indie titles, all streamed in under one hour to respect players’ and studios’ time.” Expect announcements from Mega Crit, Red Hook Studios, and Evil Empire, and more.

Nintendo testing layoffs

According to a Kotaku report, Nintendo of America is restructuring its testing center. Some new full-time employee positions will be created, but a number of contractors are being let go – including testers with over ten years of experience.

The gaming industry as a whole has seen a high number of layoffs over the past couple of years, and it seems Nintendo isn’t immune to that either. Current and former contractors say Nintendo’s restructuring will result in “a massive downsizing”.

Nintendo said the following in a statement today:

As part of MAR10 Day earlier in the month, it was announced that Nintendo and Illumination are teaming up again for a second Super Mario Bros. animated movie. Given the success of the first one, that wasn’t exactly surprising. The new film is set to debut in April 2026, so it’s a couple of years away.

That leaves us plenty of time to speculate about what the new Mario movie could include. What would you like to see? Do you have any specific ideas regarding what Nintendo and Illumination should include? Let us know in the comments.
