Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Link figma release window, photos, pre-orders live

Good Smile has revealed the release window and new photos for the upcoming Link figma based on his appearance in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and pre-orders also just opened.
The figure is set for launch in Q3 2025. It will come with a few different face places and optional parts. In terms of face plates, you’ll be getting the standard one, smiling, and shouting. Optional parts include the Master Sword, Hylian Shield, Hylian Hood, and more. Note that the Hylian Shield can be attached to Link’s back using dedicated attachment parts.
Tales of character designer Mutsumi Inomata has passed away

Mutsumi Inomata, the main character designer for various entries in the Tales of series, has passed away.
Inomata leaves us at age 63. The announcement for her death was not disclosed.
Inomata previously worked on Tales of Destiny, Tales of Eternia, Tales of Destiny 2, Tales of Rebirth, Tales of the Tempest, Tales of Innocence, Tales of Hearts, Tales of Graces, Tales of Xillia, Tales of Xillia 2, Tales of Zestiria, Tales of Berseria, and Tales of Crestoria. Outside of Bandai Namco’s RPG series, she was also a character designer on the anime Windaria, Plawres Sanshiro, Future GPX Cyber Formula, and Brain Powerd.

Build-A-Bear reveals Bidoof plushie

The Build-A-Bear Pokemon line continues on, and it’s now been revealed that a new Bidoof plushie is happening.
Bidoof is a brown rodent-like Normal-type Pokemon which first debuted in the Generation IV titles, Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. It has featured in a number of games throughout the series since its debut, and even starred in its own anime spinoff short, Bidoof’s Big Stand, in 2022.

2024 World Video Game Hall of Fame finalists announced

The next round of World Video Game Hall of Fame finalists were announced today, which includes Metroid and several other titles.
There’ll be twelve finalists in total. Outside of Metroid, Asteroids, Elite, Guitar Hero, Metroid, Myst, Neopets, Resident Evil, SimCity, Tokimeki Memorial, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, Ultima, and You Don’t Know Jack are up for potential induction.
Summer Game Fest 2024 showcase announced for June 7

The Summer Game Fest 2024 showcase will air on June 7, host Geoff Keighley announced today. It will be hosted at YouTube Theater in Los Angeles at 2 PM PT / 5 PM ET / 10 PM in the UK / 11 PM in Europe. Those not attending will be able to watch it live online.
According to the official news drop, the Summer Game Fest 2024 showcase will include announcements, trailers, and more. Fans can look forward to “a first look at the most anticipated games” and “what’s next from the video game industry.”
These showcases tend to have varying level of Switch news. We’ll be sure to keep you updated on everything when the event happens later in the year.

Pokemon Works subsidiary established in same building as Ilca

The Pokemon Company has established a new Pokemon Works subsidiary, and fans are speculating about what it could mean for the future.
At least at the moment, there’s not much to go on. Pokemon Works is only known to be operating in Shinjuku, and is in the same building as Ilca. Ilca, of course, is behind the Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl Switch remakes, which launched in 2021.

Another round of concept art has been spotted for The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and one of the images even includes Daisy.
The art comes from Jed Diffenderfer, who worked as a story artist on the film. There are eight images in total showing different aspects and possibly cut elements. Daisy is a big one here as she’s shown in the final battle – plus there’s even a Toad riding a Blue Yoshi, which is straight out of Super Mario World.

Mario Kart getting LEGO Super Mario treatment in 2025, other sets announced

During a presentation for LEGO Super Mario event in celebration of MAR10 Day, it was announced that the line is expanding with Mario Kart.
Unfortunately, Mario Kart is a long way out as its release is scheduled for 2025. No actual images were shown and a very brief teaser clip was shown at the event of the event.

Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin anime adaptation is happening

An anime adaptation based on Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin is in production, Toho announced today. P.A. Works will be handling the animation.
More details were not released, but it should follow the story of the game in some way. Here’s a rundown of the original premise:
Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama has passed away

March 7: We’re sad to report that Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama has passed away. Toriyama died on March 1 due to an acute subdural hematoma, according to Toriyama’s Bird Studio and Capsule Corporation Tokyo.
While Toriyama is most well-known for Dragon Ball, he had plenty of influence in the gaming space. He was behind the character designs for games such as Dragon Quest and Chrono Trigger.
