Original (6/26): Nintendo just announced a new partnership with Nabisco that will see Super Mario getting the Oreo treatment. They will be available in stores starting July 10, 2023.
Each package will contain a random assortment of Super Mario character designs. There are sixteen in total featuring Mario himself, along with Luigi, Toad, Yoshi, Fire Flower, Super Mushroom, Coin, Super Star, Bowser, Bowser Jr., Goomba, Boo, Blooper, Koopa Troopa, Piranha Plant, and Spiny.

Yuji Naka officially sentenced to prison with four-year suspension

Original: A verdict has been reached in Yuji Naka’s insider trading case, and the game developer – known for his previous work on Sonic the Hedgehog and more recently Balan Wonderworld – has been sentenced to prison, but he is unlikely to serve time.
The courts made a final judgement today. The big part of the story is that Naka has been given a prison sentence of two years and six months. However, sine he’ll be seeing a four-year suspension, that should allow him to avoid jailtime. He has also been given a couple of fines of two million and 170 million yen.
EarthX, spaceflight company management game, dropping on Switch next week

Pineapple Works will release EarthX on Switch next week, the company has announced. It’s due out on July 12, 2023.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie joins Peacock in August

The Super Mario Bros. Movie had a lengthy run in theaters, but it’ll soon be making its first appearance on streaming services with a release date set for Peacock next month. Reports are emerging that the film goes live on August 3, 2023.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie previously premiered in theaters this past April. It’s had a hugely successful run since then. For one thing, it’s the highest-grossing video game adaptation of all time. The film is also the third-highest grossing animated film in history, and the top-grossing title of the year to date. Over $1.3 billion in revenue was generated.

Xenoblade developer Monolith Soft sees 97.8% profit increase in latest fiscal year

Xenoblade developer Monolith Soft just experienced a very good year, as for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2023, the company saw a big increase in profits. According to Gamebiz, profit came in at 800 million. That’s an increase of 97.8 percent year-over-year.
2022 was big for Monolith Soft as Xenoblade Chronicles 3 launched that July. A few months ago, the game wrapped up its Expansion Pass with new story DLC titled Future Redeemed that essentially wrapped up the series’ saga that started with the first entry on Wii.

Nintendo director salaries for Shuntaro Furukawa, Miyamoto, and more shared in 2023 annual report

Nintendo’s latest annual report for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2023, which was just issued today, outlines the salaries of the company’s top directors including president Shuntaro Furukawa and Shigeru Miyamoto.
As the head of Nintendo, Furukawa earns the most with a salary of $2.51 million. Miyamoto follows in second with $2.02 million. The rest of the list rounds out with Shinya Takahashi (one of the hosts in the last Nintendo Direct) at $1.61 million, Satoru Shibata at $1.91 million, and Ko Shiota at $910,000. Note that these figures were converted from yen.

2023 Tokyo Game Show shares lineup of exhibitors

The Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association today announced the list of exhibitors attending the 2023 Tokyo Game Show, and while Nintendo will technically be present, it’s not too exciting.
As of today, 646 exhibitors will be at TGS. This includes 389 representatives from Japan and 257 from overseas. 2,629 exhibition booths will be available, with additional exhibitors expected to participate later. Some of the highlights highlight Bandai Namco, Capcom, Inti Creates, Koei Tecmo, Level-5, and SEGA / Atlus.
LEGO Super Mario reveals Larry’s and Morton’s Airships Expansion Set

The LEGO Super Mario line is adding the Larry’s and Morton’s Airships Expansion Set to its offerings, according to retailer listings. It will be released on August 1, 2023.
The set includes brick-built versions of the two Koopalings’ airships. By using LEGO Mario, LEGO Luigi, or LEGO Peach in the cockpits, different sound effects can he heard and you can fight a virtual cannon battle. Morton’s airship takes things further as it can be opened to create a battle zone in a LEGO Super Mario level.

Zelda’s top devs not worried about getting stuck working on the series

As the director and producer respectively, Hidemaro Fujibayashi and Eiji Aonuma are two of the most important people working on the Zelda series currently and they recently finished up Tears of the Kingdom as director and producer respectively. Both have been involved with the franchise for decades at this point. Fujibayashi started out with Zelda: Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages in 2001 while Aonuma has been around even longer – specifically in 1998 with Ocarina of Time.
Fujibayashi and Aonuma, speaking with RTL Nieuws, were recently asked if they’re afraid of getting “stuck” in the sense that they only continue to work on Zelda games. However, both don’t seem to view it that way.
