Sumo Digital worked with SEGA to release Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing in 2010. It was a racer starring Sonic and a bunch of other characters based on SEGA’s various franchises. The game was well-received, and the two companies then returned in 2012 with the sequel Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. The racing was just as good, and Sumo did everything it could to make an even bigger and better game.

While reflecting on the sequel in last month’s issue of EDGE, executive producer Steve Lycett told the magazine:

“It was basically, ‘What if we had vehicles which transformed and [travelled across] land, air and sea?’ That was the initial back-of-a-fag-packet idea that became the basis of Transformed.”

“We made everything fourplayer; we made sure every single track had its own individual [style]. In a way, we almost didn’t care what Sega thought, as long as the fans were happy. We said we wanted to deliver absolutely everything we could, and we never pulled back from that, to the point where we were sneaking updates and various bits and pieces under the radar.”

A new One Piece: Great Pirate Colosseum scan has emerged, confirming new characters for Bandai Namco and Arc System Works’ fighter.

A number of new Nintendo Selects debuted in North America today. On Wii U, we have Zelda: Wind Waker HD, Nintendo Land, and LEGO City: Undercover. The 3DS line has added Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Tomodachi Life, nintendogs + cats: Golden Retriever & New Friends, and LEGO City: Undercover.

All of these titles have now dropped to $20 officially at retail, and the new prices are now reflected on the eShop as well. As a bonus, Nintendo Land can now be purchased digitally again in North America. Nintendo removed the game for unknown reasons in late 2013.

Dragon Quest series creator Yuji Horii appeared at CEDEC 2016 today, and while giving a presentation, shared an update on Dragon Quest XI.

Development on the RPG’s scenario is now full complete. Currently, Square Enix is implementing maps, scenarios, and other such elements. It’s now at the stage where you can get an impression of them, but the details are still being filled out.

Yesterday, Horii met with Square Enix’s Yosuke Saito for a five-to-six-hour business meeting. The check of an episode took three hours, and various other ideas came into discussion. The response speed of the 3DS’ 3D mode was specifically being checked, which will be applied to the 3DS version’s 2D mode and PlayStation 4 version. Battle checks were also done for the PlayStation 4 (and NX?) version.

Finally, Horii officially confirmed that Dragon Quest XI will have the “Spell of Restoration”, which was used during the series’ early days as a password save system. In the new game, it’s a very “30th anniversary-ish thing,” Horii said. Horii also said that Dragon Quest XI will be including a casino.
