New Nintendo 3DS

In addition to Super Metroid, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past also launched on the European 3DS eShop today as a New 3DS Virtual Console game. You can view 10 minutes of off-screen footage in the video below.

In Europe, Super Metroid was added to the New 3DS Virtual Console earlier today. A few minutes of off-screen footage is in the video below.

As part of last week’s Nintendo Direct, it was announced that the 3DS Virtual Console is now seeing the addition of SNES games. However, only those with a New 3DS can partake in the fun. Downloading SNES titles on older models of the system simply isn’t possible.

A Nintendo representative told Game Informer the following about having SNES games only on New 3DS:

“As previously announced, New Nintendo 3DS has an improved CPU, which enables Super NES games to run on the system with quality results. The Super NES games also include Perfect-Pixel mode, which allows players to see their games in their original TV resolution and aspect resolution.”

Nintendo’s statement indicates that the CPU behind the New 3DS is what allows for SNES Virtual Console games to be possible.

Some folks have been digging within the files of the Super Mario World SNES release on New 3DS to see what else might be on the horizon. And as luck would have it, a decent-sized list was found which may point to upcoming titles for the Virtual Console. Given the names, this looks to be primarily for Japan.

Head past the break for the full lineup. All credit goes to Normmatt for putting the list together.

We have trailers for the three SNES games that came out on the New 3DS Virtual Console yesterday: Super Mario World, F-Zero, Pilotwings. We’ve rounded them up in the video below.

The Fire Emblem Fates news for Europe continues, even after yesterday’s Nintendo Direct. For the game’s May 20th launch, new cover plates based on the game will be available. You can see what they look like below.

One announcement that went under the radar during yesterday’s Nintendo Direct is Futuridium EP Deluxe for Nintendo platforms. Yesterday, MixedBag revealed that Futuridium EP Deluxe is coming to both Wii U and New 3DS. This shoot’em up was originally released in 2014.

Here’s an overview of Futuridium EP Deluxe:

Futuridium EP Deluxe is a psychedelic retro inspired shoot’em up with a modern twist, that blends together frantic action, puzzle elements, a vibrant low poly aesthetic and an heart pumping electronic soundtrack. As a lone starship pilot lost in a dimensional loop just before a big space battle, with a limited and constantly depleting energy tank, your only hope is to fly as fast as possible over enormous space dreadnoughts, destroying their defenses and the cyan power cubes to get some energy back.

Try to escape the infinite loop of Futuridium: you can count only on your reflexes, your dual lasers, the nimbleness of your starship and… the ability to turn 180° on the spot! Can you beat all the 50 levels, the 5 bosses, unlock all the extra game modes and collect the 150 medals?

Good luck! You’ll need it…

Futuridium EP Deluxe will be out “soon” on Nintendo’s systems. Both versions run at 60 frames per second, and the New 3DS version will offer 3D support.

A few screenshots from Futuridium EP Deluxe are in the gallery below.
