The official Twitter account for NBA Playgrounds has since confirmed that the “huge announcement” is planned for Thursday. A brief mentions reads:

Many indie games were playable at BitSummit in Japan last weekend. Among them was Research and Destroy, a real-time strategy game from Implausible Industries.

Site contributor iYakku asked the team about a Switch version while the game was being displayed. It’s running on Unreal Engine 4, meaning they can bring it to any console they want so long as their publisher allows for it. The game is only running on PC at the moment, but the developers at Implausible Industries have console experience, so that’s their target – including Switch.

You can get a feel for Research and Destroy with the gameplay video below. We’re told that it’s inspired by titles such as XCOM and Valkyria Chronicles.

At BitSummit 2017 last week, Inti Creates showcased Azure Striker Gunvolt: Striker Pack running on Switch. We have some off-screen footage below thanks to site contributor iYakku.

GoNNER is heading to the European Switch eShop on June 1. The game will be published a bit later in North America, but not by much.

Nintendo’s website lists the stateside release of GoNNER for June 8. It’ll cost $9.99.

Here’s a lengthy overview:

GoNNER is a tough as hell score-based procedurally-generated platformer with roguelike elements. GoNNER is also a story about friendship between Ikk, Death, and a space whale named Sally.

You will die. A lot. This is by design, but it’s not made to feel unfair. You’ll eventually get the hang of GoNNER, so don’t lose your head. But even if you do it’s okay cause we have a lot of replacement heads you can use.

Speaking during a podcast last month, tinyBuild’s Alex Nichiporchik suggested that Phantom Trigger was being made for Switch. Today, that was made official.

Phantom Trigger, “a hardcore neon slasher with RPG and roguelike elements,” will be on Switch this summer. Have a look at the announcement video below.

Wii U is in an interesting position right now. Although Switch is the hot new thing, Nintendo’s older console still exists, and games continue to come out for the old console each week via the eShop. Just a couple of days ago for example, The Girl and the Robot finally hit Wii U after a nearly four-year wait.

Throughout Wii U’s lifespan, many indie games were announced for the platform. Many came out, but plenty never actually made it to the console. Since Wii U is starting to wind down at this point, we’ve attempted to investigate as many noteworthy, unreleased indie titles as possible to see if they’re still planned.

Our full findings are included below. Note that we’ve left out certain games that were reconfirmed for Wii U within the past few months, such as Hive Jump, Soul Saga, and Lobodestroyo.

A few new games out came out this week on the Wii U and 3DS eShops. If you’re interested in checking out what’s new in screenshot form, take a look at the gallery below.
