Wii U

Meta Knight is returning for the new Smash Bros. games on Wii U and 3DS, Nintendo has revealed. The character was confirmed through an update on the official website just moments ago. Screenshots of Meta Knight in action can be found above.

Update: Kotaku has a slightly clearer shot of the “female Link” page, and notes that the character was “devised as being sister-like”. That should clarify things once and for all!

Some fans in Japan have already gotten their hands on the special Hyrule Warriors art book. And thankfully for us, a few images have already popped up online.

The photos are a bit fuzzy, but they do seem to reveal some interesting information. What’s been receiving the most attention today is the “female Link” design. It seems that this was an original character named “Linklu” or “Linkel”.

The beginning of the text states “Hero Link’s girl […]”. This has led some to speculate that the character would have been Link’s child.

There are plenty of other noteworthy bits from the art book as well. One of the pages mentions that a white fairy was an early design for Lana. Meanwhile, there was a black fairy imagined during the early design stages for Cia.

Continuing on the topic of characters, in the concept art, there was a spirit-like woman who helped Link. The text wonders what her real form or identity would be. It seems to be an original character that was scrapped from Hyrule Warriors.

Head past the break for some smallish spoilers from the relationship chart and a quote about Zelda’s design!

Disney Interactive has announced that Donald Duck is joining the cast of characters set to appear in Disney Infinity 2.0.

Donald Duck isn’t getting his own Play Set, but he will be playable in the Toy Box. The character can toss objects and sweep up enemies with a broom.

A new Donald Duck themed Power Disc will also be available for players to use in the Toy Box mode to customize and enhance the experience. Players will be able to use the “All for One” Power Disc to change their Donald character into a Three Musketeers costume.

Update: This may be inaccurate…

It’s looking like all hope is not lost for soccer fans missing FIFA 15 on the Wii U, as it’s looking possible that another big name soccer title is heading to Nintendo’s home console. A couple of French websites have made mention of Nintendo’s platform and though the translation is a little rough, both sites clearly make mention of the Wii U as one of the platforms getting Konami’s FIFA rival, Pro Evolution Soccer 2015.

The first source comes by way of Jeuxvideo which has the following listed:

It took time, but PES 2015 is now officially announced by Konami. An episode which will be a first step towards the eighth generation of consoles, an eagerly awaited by many fans of the series forward. ‘s first news however, is that owners of PS3 and 360 will not be forgotten since PES 2015 will also be released on these media (therefore giving PS3, 360, PS4 , One and Wii U ). The bad news is that for now, the PC does not seem concerned.

Friend of the site Nintendo-town had this to say:

Pro Evolution Soccer 2015 arrives on Wii U

Konami takes advantage of the opportunity of this lack of competition and confirmed that Pro Evolution Soccer 2015 arrives on Wii U at the same time as the PS3 versions, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. A very good news for the players of the Nintendo console. The editor also probably finding his account leaving the game on Wii U in Japan,

Though nothing concrete, definitely worth keeping an eye on for sports fans.

Today Sakurai gives us a look at an interesting item, the Special Flag. It functions a little differently to items we’ve seen previous:

A pair of hackers from the UK have allegedly detected a few unused cup icons in Mario Kart 8. At this time, we cannot confirm their validity.

If true though, it’d be interesting to see why they were abandoned. Were they simply images left behind during development? Or could they hint at something more significant such as DLC?
