Nintendo is planning extended maintenance for the Wii U and 3DS this coming Monday. Online play, rankings, and other related Internet elements will be affected.

An announcement on Miiverse also confirms that the service will be affected by maintenance on Monday. Features such as friend requests, block list and messages will be unavailable.

The maintenance will begin at 8 AM PT. It’s expected to end a few hours later – specifically 5 PM PT.

A poll taken by YouGov asked UK citizens if they believe that playing video games can cause real-life aggression to bubble up. Respondents were only able to answer “yes” or “no” to the poll, as no “sometimes” or “maybe” answer was provided. Here are the results:

– 61% of respondents said “Yes” when asked if games increase real-life aggression
– 57% said that games are a good way to let out frustration
– Old people/those who haven’t played games think worse of games than young people/those who have played games

Don’t read too far into this– it’s just one study.

Nintendo has been working on the next firmware update for the 3DS. According to the generally-reliable Emily Rogers, the download was originally scheduled for October. The update, however, has apparently been pushed back to an unspecified timeframe.

The Wii U is also expected to be receiving a major update – first announced several months ago during a Nintendo Direct. Rogers teased on Twitter that the new firmware will arrive “sooner than you think.”

The tweet in full, which also contains an interesting tidbit regarding Ubisoft, reads:

Asked to elaborate on the Ubisoft note, Rogers tweeted:

Mighty No. 9 has hit yet another stretch goal on Kickstarter. The game will now be receiving a “Beck & Call” online co-op challenge mode after raising $2.75 million.

Over a dozen missions will be included in the new mode, which allows gamers to play online with a friend. One player takes on the role of Beck while the other controls Call. All missions will be parts of remixed levels.

Japanese Wii U eShop games are tough to come by these days, but Kemco is readying a new one for release next week.

“Togabito no Senritsu” is a psycho suspense adventure game, dealing with loss and death associated with a murder title.

In this death game, several are trapped in prison, and they’ll need to work together to escape. Throughout the experience, characters give into their selfish nature and uncover the sins of their past. Belief and bonds in extreme conditions, hate and love, and the story of defeat and victory are just some of the elements players will encounter.

Did that get your attention? Those who own Japanese Wii U systems can purchase Togabito no Senritsu from the eShop on October 2 for 1,000 yen.

Nintendo has launched the special Pokemon X/Y 3DS XL systems today. They’re out ahead of the launch of the 3DS games, which are due out on October 12.
