Balatro is getting a brand new physical release as part of a “Special Edition”, and pre-orders are starting to go live.

The rollout of the announcement took place in a bit of an odd fashion. PlayStack technically shared the news during a Giant Bomb at Nite show a couple of weeks back. The publisher itself still never put out an official announcement, but now that the news is out there, perhaps that isn’t important.

Beyond Good & Evil: Anniversary Edition is finally here, and a video from GameXplain offers up a graphics comparison between that new version and the previous HD release. The new Switch version is going up against the Xbox 360 HD version.

While graphics are one of the main attractions, remember that Ubisoft is also giving fans plenty of other reasons to return to the action adventure classic. The title implemented quality of life improvements including autosave, and cross-save across all platforms. Plus, it packs in a new Speedrun Mode and an Anniversary Gallery.

After a successful run on the eShop, Astral Ascent is now set for physical release on Switch. Limited Run Games is behind production.

The company as of now only appears to have plans for a standard version. No special editions have been announced at this time.

A new “Vita Nova” update is on the way for Terra Nil, Devolver Digital and Free Lives announced today.

The update brings along new content and improvements. Players can expect five new levels, nine new buildings, an updated world map, and a dramatic overhaul of the wildlife system.

Considering it’s been twelve years since the last original Super Monkey Ball game released, I half-expected that Super Monkey Ball: Banana Rumble might try and and take some big risks, maybe try and swing for the fences with some crazy new single-player modes or some sort of other significant mechanical shakeup. Instead of reinventing the wheel – or indeed, the ball – Super Monkey Ball: Banana Rumble is more focused on just being a really well-crafted Super Monkey Ball game, one that seems to understand the importance of executing its few core gameplay modes as tightly as possible while cutting out most of the extraneous distractions from other games in the series. With a robust and challenging single-player Adventure Mode, a smattering of simple yet well-designed Battle Mode activities, and robust multiplayer support across the whole package, Banana Rumble is exactly what I had hoped it would be: an a-peel-ing blast from start to finish.

GSD data provides a look at the best-selling games across Europe in May 2024. It’s based on data for all physical game releases in major markets plus digital game sales from most major publishers.

A big release for the month was Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, which lands at #5. If Nintendo shared digital data, there’s a chance it could have charted higher.

GamesIndustry offers up a couple of comparison points. Sales are 8 percent lower compared with the opening two weeks of the Super Mario RPG remake. They were also down 8.5 percent compared to Paper Mario: The Origami King.
