As a classic of the SNES era of RPGs, a remake of Super Mario RPG was a bit of a shock reveal earlier this year. Originally a collaboration between Nintendo and Square, it was a bit of a surprise back then as well. With a complete and from the ground up remake, we see new 3D graphics, crisp menus, and a bit of extra content for a game on Switch that many would say is one of the best RPGs of its time – but what about now? Let’s take a look at how Super Mario RPG fairs in today’s standards, as spoiler free as possible.

Limited Run Games is working on a physical release of Devil Engine: Complete Edition for Switch, the company announced today.

You may remember that Devil Engine technically already launched on Switch in 2019. However, it then reshipped as a new “Complete Edition” last month. A physical edition also came to Japan, though this is the first time it’ll have a boxed copy elsewhere.

Among Us is joining Vampire Survivors with brand new DLC, Poncle just announced.

The DLC is comprised of crewmates, weapons, power-ups, and a stage inspired by the Impostor-hunting hit. There’ll be “classic Vampire Survivors gameplay with new weapons, characters, music, some surprises and new mechanics all wrapped up in Among Us inspired chaos.” All told players will gain access to 9 characters, 15 weapons, 1 stage, 20 in-game unlocks, the ability to see the future, and an Adventure.

Today, Elytra Games announced that its upcoming title Bugaboo Pocket will be launching on Switch in the future. It’s currently targeting a 2024 release.

Elytra Games is a virtual pet game, but there’s more to it than that. There’ll apparently be a story that plays a key role and features like currency that can be earned in minigames and by cleaning up the pet waste.

Today, Chucklefish and Pixpil revealed the final release date for Eastward: Octopia, the game’s upcoming DLC expansion. It’ll be ready to go on January 31, 2024.

Eastward: Octopia was previously announced during a Nintendo Direct in September. It was said to be launching during the holiday.

Open Roads, which was first announced three years ago, has now been confirmed for Switch. We also have a final release date of February 22, 2024.

Open Roads is a road trip adventure game. It’s being made by the same folks as Gone Home, though Fullbright co-founder Steve Gaynor is no longer involved and the group is now known as “The Open Roads Team”.

Digital Eclipse today revealed Llamasoft: The Jeff Minter Story, and we not only have full details and a trailer, but a full list of games as well. Note that news about launch timing is not yet available.

The Switch release – which is the second entry in the Gold Master Series following The Making of Karateka – is an interactive documentary pays tribute to “one of the weirdest, wildest game developers to ever exist”. It’ll come with a library featuring 42 games from eight platforms including the unreleased Konix Multi-System hardware, four “interactive timelines”, over an hour of all-new video featurettes, the ability to save, load, and rewind gameplay at any point, and more.

A year after it was announced for the platform, Tanuki Sunset now has a release date on Switch. Rewind Games says that its title is slated for December 24, 2023.

Tanuki Sunset, a skateboarding game, was confirmed for Switch in October 2022. According to Rewind Games, the title has been optimized for the platform and the studio is promising “a fluid and responsive experience at 60 FPS during core gameplay, providing both new and returning players with a smooth and immersive gaming experience.”

Hamster today announced the latest entry in the Arcade Archives series, which will be Pole Position II. A worldwide release is scheduled for December 7, 2023.

Pole Position II, made by Namco, originally came to arcades in 1983. This racing game was notable for featuring four different courses, a significant increase for the time.

Arcade Archives Pole Position II will be distributed digitally on the Switch eShop. Pricing is set at $7.99 / €6.99 / £6.29.

Nintendo and Intelligent Systems have released a new update for Fire Emblem Heroes bringing the game to version 8.0.0.

This update marks the beginning of Book VIII, the continuation of the game’s main story, and adds new weapons and weapon skills to refine, a new event in the form of Affinity Auto-Battles, and more. We have the full rundown below.
