Let’s Talk #44: Early Miitomo and My Nintendo thoughts
Nintendo launched two important things outside of Japan this week: Miitomo and My Nintendo. For the uninitiated, Miitomo is Nintendo’s very first mobile app while My Nintendo is the company’s brand new rewards service.
Both of these have been out for a few days now. Have you had a chance to try either of them out? If so, what are your thoughts thus far? No matter how you feel, let us know in the comments below!
Highlights from last week’s topic: What do you think of Pokemon GO?
We’re back with a new weekly comic for you! With Pokémon Sun/Moon buzz in the air, we felt now would be a perfect time to feature this upcoming 3DS release.
Here’s today’s comic (click for full size):
Don and I have been talking about some potentially neat ways to involve the community with some of our comics. Hopefully we’ll have something to share on that front very soon!
More footage of Chronicles of Teddy is now available, which specifically shows the Wii U version. Take a look at the video below.
Update (4/2): Bumped to the top. Nothing new was shown, sadly. Masuda was in attendance, but they only went over the trailer that was shown during the Pokemon Direct in February. This was technically the first TV airing of the video, but it’s disappointing nonetheless!
Original (3/26): It was already made clear that we’d be getting a proper look at Pokemon Sun/Moon in the near future thanks to CoroCoro’s upcoming issue. However, we now have confirmation that gameplay will be shared very soon.
Next week’s episode of the Japanese variety show Pokenchi (Gathering at the Pokemon House) is confirmed to show the first TV aired footage of the new games. Game Freak director Junichi Masuda should also be in attendance to talk about Sun/Moon.
Pokenchi’s upcoming episode airs on April 3 in Japan.
IGN spoke with Sonic creators Yakashi Iizuka and Yuji Naka about some of their memories when working on the series at SXSW a couple of weeks ago. See what they had to say in the video below.
A couple of notable sales are currently running on Amazon. Bayonetta 2 is down to $20.79 while Skylanders SuperChargers Dark Edition is available for $28.60. Remember, Bayonetta 2 is standalone and doesn’t include the original game, but you can grab that one from the eShop.
Road Redemption’s release on Wii U came into question this week following a message posted on the game’s Kickstarter page. All is well though, as DarkSeas’ Jason Tate has now clarified the situation.
Wii U remains a part of DarkSeas’ release plans. Furthermore, the team intends to include GamePad support for local multiplayer without splitscreen. It’ll just take a little longer to port Road Redemption to Wii U compared to the PS4 and Xbox One.
Tate told Eurogamer:
“What yesterday’s communication meant to do was shed a little more light on our development process. It’s easier to optimise our PC version of Road Redemption for Xbox One and PS4. We benefit from each of those optimisations as we make further optimisations for Wii U. Our goal is to for Wii U owners to have the exact same experience as their PS4 and Xbox One brethren.
That is all we were trying to say, and I apologise if it came off as unclear, curt or offensive to Wii U owners. We are still actively pursuing Wii U development, and we’re very excited to take advantage of the second screen for a splitscreen-free local multiplayer experience.”
Data from market research company Technavio indicates that Nintendo invested close to $527 million in research and development during the past fiscal year. In addition, the company generated $5 billion in revenue.
Technavio’s report reveals the top five leading vendors in the global motion-controlled remote market, which includes Nintendo. Hillcrest Labs, LG, Samsung, and SMK are also named.
The Ace Attorney anime finally debuted a few hours ago. Now the question is, how long will it run for?
A comment from Capcom’s Shu Takumi indicates that the Ace Attorney anime will be around for half a year. That probably means we can count on a little over 20 episodes.
Here’s a promo video for the second Ace Attorney anime episode by the way:
Mercenary Kings, Tribute Games’ side-scrolling shoot ’em up, never made its way to Wii U. A port to the console was ruled out in September 2013, several months before the game came out.
Could Mercenary Kings end up on Nintendo’s next core system though? Tribute Games co-founder Jean-Francois Major expressed interest in the possibility when conversing with one fan on Twitter.
He said:
@JGebicker @JoolsWatsham ill be happy to bring it to the NX. Just need to convince Nintendo now.

Major did tell us back in 2013 that as former Game Boy Advance developers, Tribute Games “would love to go back on Nintendo consoles at some point.” Maybe that could happen with NX.
Thanks to Dry Bone Koopa for the tip.
