Update: Game Informer just uploaded a video of Game Freak and Ohmori talking about Pokemon and Switch. We’ve added that in below.

Original: As mentioned earlier today, Game Informer’s latest issue contains a significant feature about Pokemon. The magazine visited Game Freak’s offices in Japan to reminisce about the franchise’s early days, the various entries, and more.

Switch was also one topic discussed. At E3 in June, it was announced that a brand new Pokemon game is planned for the system. Game Freak’s Junichi Masuda and Shigeru Ohmori both spoke about Switch and making a game on the platform.

Pokemon Bank was finally updated this week to include functionality for Pokemon Sun/Moon. To celebrate, Nintendo of Europe presented a challenge to Game Freak’s Junichi Masuda to name as many Pokemon as he can in 20 seconds. See how he did below.

Game Freak’s Junichi Masuda recently made some comments about Pokemon and Switch during an interview with Spanish site MeriStation which gained quite a bit of attention. However, we thought the entire interview might be worth sharing, as it’s interesting in its own right. And thankfully, Nintendo Everything reader Gumbatei was up to the task of translating the comments into English.

Masuda, along with Shigeru Ohmori, talked a fair amount about Pokemon Sun/Moon and the series in general. The two talked about Alola Forms and whether they’ll return, the future of the franchise, and more. A question was also asked about potential Pokemon Diamond/Pearl remakes, but the response is about what you’d expect.

Since a mainline Pokemon has never graced a Nintendo home console, fans of the franchise are waiting to see if and when it will make an appearance on Switch. Of course, there has been plenty of speculation regarding a third version of Pokemon Sun/Moon for the platform.

When asked about Switch in a new Spanish interview, Game Freak’s Junichi Masuda said:

“Without a doubt, Nintendo Switch is the future, but we will have to wait until it goes out on the market and study how it can benefit from Pokemon. When people have it, we will have too see and deeply study how to use it so we can think how the next entries of Pokemon are going to be and how the saga can benefit from the new console.”

Masuda also mentioned that Pokemon has always evolved with Nintendo consoles, and will continue to do so. With the technology that’s available, they’ll explore how to highlight the series’ important aspect of communication.

In its issue last month, Retro Gamer published a large feature on Pokemon which takes a look back at the series’ earliest days up to the present. It included a number of comments from people with big connections to the franchise, including Game Freak’s Junichi Masuda and Ken Sugimori. Masuda is well-known as the producer at Game Freak while Sugimori drew the original 151 Pokemon.

Masuda in particular shared some interesting comments about the process in which Game Freak went to work on the original games, how the team was limited by the Game Boy hardware, and localization overseas. Sugimori talked about why each new Pokemon generation tends to see no more than 100 creatures.

We’ve included these statements from both Masuda and Sugimori below.

Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon finally launched last week. As the two games were approaching their release, Japanese magazine Famitsu caught up with director Shigeru Ohmori and series producer Junichi Masuda to speak about the new games.

Ohmori and Masuda had plenty to say about the challenge of implementing Z-Moves, getting the most out of the 3DS hardware, and new Pokemon/features introduced this time around. Head past the break for our full translation.

In its latest issue, GamesMaster published an interview with two of Game Freak’s developers working on Pokemon Sun/Moon. Director Shigeru Ohmori and Junichi Masuda were both interviewed. Ohmori’s comments mainly reiterated what we heard in previous interviews, but many of Masuda’s comments were very interesting.

The Masuda interview was more about Pokemon in general. He talked about fan feedback, the process of making new creatures, plus voice acting and Pokemon cries. If that wasn’t enough, Masuda also dished on a couple of new online features being included in Sun/Moon.

Remakes are a well-known part of the Pokemon franchise. New titles are produced regularly, but older ones are visited fairly frequently. Fans might be interested to hear that Game Freak remains interested in this.

Series producer Junichi Masuda told IGN:

“I think the remakes, like Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen, is still an approach we’re interested in. With the Virtual Console releases of the original games, specifically there had never been a way to bring those Pokemon over to the latest generation. It had always been that you couldn’t get those Pokemon out.”

Interviews with Pokemon Sun/Moon director Shigeru Ohmori and producer Junichi Masuda have been popping up left and right. Nintendo UK is throwing its hat into the ring with a discussion of its own. In Nintendo’s official interview, Ohmori and Masuda talked about featuring more expressive characters, what the inspiration was behind Z-Moves, the theme of relationships between people and Pokemon, and much more.

Have you ever wondered what it’s like for a Pokemon to be inside of a Pokeball? Kotaku asked this burning question to Junichi Masuda of Game Freak, who is a long-time developer on the series.

On that topic, Masuda had this to say:

“I think it’s safe to say that it’s very comfortable inside inside of a Pokeball, it’s a very comfortable environment. Maybe the equivalent of a high-end suite room in a fancy hotel.”

This is certainly good to hear. Pokemon deserve the utmost comfort!
