Mario Kart 8

Mario Kart veterans Princess Peach and Yoshi provide the inspiration for two new Wii Remote Plus controllers – both releasing on same day as Mario Kart 8

24th April 2014 – With just over a month to go until gravity-defying racing comes to Wii U in the shape of Mario Kart 8, Nintendo has today announced that a Mario Kart 8 Premium Pack – Special Edition Wii U hardware bundle will accompany the launch of the game on 30th May.

The release of the Mario Kart 8 Premium Pack – Special Edition represents an ideal offering for first-time Wii U owners, with a black Wii U Premium console with 32GB* of storage packaged alongside a black Wii U GamePad controller, Sensor Bar, and the all-important Mario Kart 8 game disc. With Mario Kart 8 set to feature 16 remixed classic courses, as well as 16 courses that are brand new to the series, both newcomers and veteran drivers alike will face fresh karting challenges with the added twist of a new antigravity feature allowing Mario and company to race upside down or up vertical surfaces.

Nintendo could be planning a Mario Kart 8 Wii U Premium Pack for Europe, if the image above is to be believed.

French website Gameblog reports that the bundle will be available on May 30 – the racer’s release date. It’ll include a black 32GB console, GamePad, a copy of Mario Kart 8, and a free 7 day trial for Wii U Karaoke.

A price point of €299 is expected for the Mario Kart 8 Wii U Premium Pack. An official announcement should be made soon.

Some interesting things in this video. It’s mostly stuff we’ve seen before, though we do get a (very) brief look at Mario Kart TV, and there’s also a mysterious star count towards the end after one of the races is finished.

Thanks to PS4forever for the tip.

Mario Kart 8 may offer 30 playable characters, based on the photo above. It seems to be the game’s character select screen.

Now… is that screen final? Could there be even more unlockable characters aside from the ones hidden by question marks?
