Square Enix

Gematsu has posted an article showcasing a number of questions answered by Square Enix president and representative director Yosuke Matsuda pretaining to the Nintendo Switch. You can check out the questions down below.

Square Enix has not one, but two Dragon Quest Builders game coming to Switch. The sequel was actually announced before the first game for Nintendo’s console. And then during the latest Nintendo Direct, the original Dragon Quest Builders was confirmed for all regions on Switch.

Interestingly, it seems as though Nintendo will be publishing the game in the west. No one seems to have really picked up on it or at least discussed it, but Dragon Quest Builders is listed with various other first-party releases for Switch in the company’s latest release schedule. Square Enix might be handling it in Japan, but at least overseas, it looks like Nintendo is publishing.

Square Enix reported its financial results today. Along with that, a results briefing was held where the company talked about Switch and more.

As far as support goes, Square Enix won’t rule out any IPs for Switch. Those include new ones, currently active ones, and ones that aren’t active at the moment. While other platforms would probably receive these games as well due to Square Enix’s multiplatform strategy, they would aggressively make titles for Switch.

After the latest Nintendo Direct, a demo for Project Octopath Traveler went up on the Switch eShop. Square Enix then asked those who played the trial to provide feedback in a survey.

A Switch news notice went out this week with interim results for the survey. It will be open for one more week. Since the notice was sent on the Japanese channel, we assume that the early results are based on responses from Japan, but that’s not officially confirmed.

In any case, the notice has the following results:

Square Enix released a new story-focused, English trailer for Lost Sphear titled “Restore the World”. See the video below.

Lost Sphear isn’t off to such a great start in Japan. Combined sales of the Switch and PlayStation 4 versions are just over 13,000 copies. On Switch specifically, the RPG sold roughly 6,000 units in its first week.

Data from Dengeki further points to a lack of interest in Lost Sphear. According to its numbers, the game sold through just 20 percent of its initial shipment. Not only is Lost Sphear selling slowly so far, but Square Enix may have overestimated interest and there will likely be an overabundance of copies sitting on store shelves.
