Kirby and the Forgotten Land 3D Kirby

Kirby finally went 3D with Kirby and the Forgotten Land last year, and according to director Tatsuya Kamiyama, a big reason why it took so long to happen is due to the character’s pink sphere shape. Kamiyama explained why this was such a big obstacle during a session at GDC 2023 this week.

Kamiyama noted:

Project EGG Swich

Switch has been home to a ton of classic games, and that pattern is continuing with plans from D4 Enterprise and its retro games distribution service Project EGG.

D4 has previously brought back titles from platforms such as the MSX, PC-9801, and PC-8801 on Windows, PicoPico for smartphones, and Virtual Console for Wii U (MSX), Wii (MSX, NeoGeo, Arcade), and 3DS. Additionally, it is the sole authorized worldwide distributor of MSX Licensing Corporation, which holds the rights to MSX.

With only a few days remaining before the day the eShop closes its doors on the 3DS, I wanted to make a video to help folks make a choice on what to grab before the final curtain call.

I decided to tailor my list to the thing I most cherished about the system, its catalogue of Japanese role-playing games. It was with the 3DS that I fell in love with the genre as it became a haven for some of the most generous, polished, classic titles in the genre.
