While we don’t have specific sales figures, Shin Megami Tensei V appears to be off to a good start in the United States.

The NPD Group released its latest gaming sales report today, and it includes a note about Atlus’ Switch RPG. Interestingly enough, it saw the highest launch month dollar sales of any Shin Megami Tensei title in history.

The Game Awards 2021 are in the books, and you could say that it was an interesting show. Many were expecting Nintendo to drop at least one piece of news, but it turns out that the company didn’t have anything to share at all. The only other year that’s happened was in 2015, so it’s certainly a rare occurrence.

Despite Nintendo’s absence, there was a good amount of Switch news. SEGA showed off Sonic Frontiers, Cuphead – The Delicious Last Course finally remerged with a new trailer and release date, and Persona 4 Arena Ultimax was announced for Switch. That wasn’t everything as there were new glimpses as titles like The Lord of the Rings: Gollum.

This year, The Game Awards happened on Thursday, though there wasn’t a lot to see for Nintendo fans. To be honest, the show was not very different from recent ones. As one of the sponsors, Nintendo usually presents one or two announcements. This year in particular there was nothing coming directly from the company.

In today’s video, I invited Bryce – one of the editors on the site – to join me in a conversation about Nintendo’s lack of presence at The Game Awards. We also talked about other highlights from the show such as the new trailer for Sonic Frontiers and the Cuphead DLC. You can check the video down below.

super monkey ball banana mania guest characters

Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania went all out with guest characters. SEGA itself included some stars from its various franchises like Sonic the Hedgehog and Kazuma Kiryu from Kazuya, but the team also stepped outside of the box with some unexpected additions. The game includes Morgana from Persona 5, Suezo from Monster Rancher, and Hello Kitty as DLC.

In an interview with Retro Gamer, Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania director and producer Masao Shirosaki spoke more about those guest characters and their inclusion. He told the magazine:
