Rumor: Some Nintendo assets distributed online through hack of internal dev servers
Posted on 4 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, Rumors | 0 comments
Update: Flipnote Studio for Switch as well as the new Pokemon music have been confirmed fake, so thankfully we can rest easy knowing that Nintendo’s servers have not been hacked.
Original: When you’re a big company like Nintendo, protecting against hacks is something you unfortunately have to deal with. In the Big N’s case, with announcements and other plans being set up weeks and months in advance, ensuring that information isn’t revealed before an unveiling can be crucial. Hacks (and especially leaks) do happen though, and it’s something we’ve seen impact Nintendo in recent years.
Another notable hack may have taken place over the past few days. Two releases may have been involved: a new Flipnote Studio for Switch and Pokemon Sword/Shield DLC.

Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy came out on consoles towards the tail end of last week, but it’s been met with some frustration. Aspyr, the company behind the port, accidentally enabled cross-play between Switch (as well as PS4) and Switch. Usually this sort of feature would be celebrated, but it’s been turned on by default and unfair matches have been taking place between newcomers and experienced PC players.
PC players need to go out of their way in order to make cross-play happen. Users need to input the specific IP address of console matchmaking servers, and it doesn’t even show up on the menus for the PC release. Aside from having more experience, they’re also able to use a mouse and keyboard setup.
Here’s what Aspyr is saying about the situation:
