Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric will feature a pair of “fan favorite characters”, Big Red Button Entertainment has teased.

In an interview with GamesTM this month, creative director Bob Rafei teased:

We looked at the rich universe and history of Sonic and began to gravitate towards characters that best fit into our objective to make an epic adventure game. Dr Eggman was a very fun character to explore and created a really fun dynamic to Lyric’s straight man super villain vibe. Also there are two fan favourite characters that we’re excited to add.

Anyone want to take a guess as to who Rafei is teasing here?!

As tweeted by Nintendo just a few moments ago:

The Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/3DS website has been updated with a bunch of new screenshots and details about solo play in the 3DS version, controls, and stages. Find the images above and look for the information below.

Classic

In Classic mode on the Nintendo 3DS, players choose different paths as they proceed along a map and fight against waiting CPU opponents.

There are many different kinds of matches, including one-on-one fights, team battles with CPU players both aiding and attacking you, matches where you must defeat opponents one after another or in groups, and even more.

When you win a match, you will receive a reward. Besides trophies and gold, you can also receive custom parts.

Update: Kotaku has a slightly clearer shot of the “female Link” page, and notes that the character was “devised as being sister-like”. That should clarify things once and for all!

Some fans in Japan have already gotten their hands on the special Hyrule Warriors art book. And thankfully for us, a few images have already popped up online.

The photos are a bit fuzzy, but they do seem to reveal some interesting information. What’s been receiving the most attention today is the “female Link” design. It seems that this was an original character named “Linklu” or “Linkel”.

The beginning of the text states “Hero Link’s girl […]”. This has led some to speculate that the character would have been Link’s child.

There are plenty of other noteworthy bits from the art book as well. One of the pages mentions that a white fairy was an early design for Lana. Meanwhile, there was a black fairy imagined during the early design stages for Cia.

Continuing on the topic of characters, in the concept art, there was a spirit-like woman who helped Link. The text wonders what her real form or identity would be. It seems to be an original character that was scrapped from Hyrule Warriors.

Head past the break for some smallish spoilers from the relationship chart and a quote about Zelda’s design!
