Amazon recently teased a couple of “exciting announcements” for the NES Classic Edition. One of these may not be so exciting after all.

Amazon Books have now started to sell the NES Classic Edition. This applies to locations in Seattle, Portland, and San Diego.

We were definitely hoping for bigger and better news (like an online restock) from Amazon. Hopefully that other announcement is a tad more interesting.

With all of the Super Mario Run information coming in tonight, a new set of interviews with Shigeru Miyamoto are beginning to appear. The Verge is one of the first outlets with a discussion with the legendary developer.

During the chat, there was plenty of talk about Super Mario Run including how some of its origins are tied to Wii. Miyamoto also spoke about Pokemon GO’s success, and said that some franchises like Nintendogs may be better-suited as mobile-only.

Here’s a roundup of Miyamoto’s comments:

There was plenty of Nintendo fun on The Late Show Starring Jimmy Fallon today. Aside from the games themselves – Super Mario Run and Zelda: Breath of the Wild on Switch – Shigeru Miyamoto also performed the Super Mario Bros. theme with The Roots. View it below.

Reggie Fils-Aime won’t be the only Nintendo bigwig appearing on The Tonight Show in just a short while. In a brief video – posted below – we can also see that Shigeru Miyamoto stopped by.

The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon begins at 11:35 PM. Nintendo’s segment, featuring Super Mario Run, can appear at any time. We’ll post it on the site once it’s online.

Update: The restock has now been confirmed for December 20 – see the updated email below.

Original: Best Buy is sending out emails to consumers about an impending NES Classic Edition restock. We know that it’s happening soon – it’s just a matter of when.

Unfortunately, Best Buy made some sort of error in its email. It first mentions “tomorrow” (December 8), followed by December 20 right after that. I’d say the latter is a more likely bet, but a restock tomorrow isn’t entirely out of the question.

We’ll let you know if Best Buy clarifies the situation at all.

Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime will be appearing on The Tonight Show several hours from now. The company’s Twitter page has now acknowledged this, and is putting expectations in check as well.

Reggie’s primary purpose is to show off Super Mario Run. That means we should be seeing some new gameplay of the mobile title.

Super Mario Run is just over a week away – it launches on December 15.

The NES Classic Edition, otherwise known as the Nintendo Classic Mini, is off to a fast start in France. While 100,000 units were shipped, that wasn’t enough to meet demand. Nintendo sold through all of its pre-orders and wasn’t really able to sell the hardware through other means due to a lack of stock.

Part of the NES Classic Edition’s success can be attributed to its demographic. Rather than core gamers, the average consumer has expressed the most interest.

Nintendo remains committed to sending out more NES Classic Edition units to retailers, including France. Shipments will continue this month and into 2017.
