This Marth amiibo seemingly given two swords due to manufacturing error
Posted on 9 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, Rumors | 35 Comments
Because of low stock, Marth has quickly become one of the rarest amiibo. But now we’ve apparently seen one Marth figure that could be the rarest of them all.
Marth typically holds just one sword. However, GameSpot was sent photos of an apparent amiibo that features two swords, due to a manufacturing error.
We can’t officially confirm the validity of the photos, so we’ll go ahead and label this a rumor just to be safe. Though GameSpot does say that it has seen three videos showing the defective Marth with his two swords. Assuming it’s true, this is definitely a sweet-looking Marth!

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney localization editor originally suggested “Roger Wright” name
Posted on 9 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, News | 5 Comments
Phoenix Wright is a character we’ve all come to love over the years. But did you know that he could have had a different name?
Alex Smith, a localization editor working on Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, said he originally suggested the name Roger. ‘Pierce,’ ‘Xavier,’ ‘Marcus,’ and ‘Zane’ were also on the list of proposed first names for Phoenix.
Smith told USgamer:
“My original suggestion for Phoenix Wright was ‘Roger Wright.’ I had come up with a list of first names and a list of last names, and submitted that to Capcom. And, in those, ‘Phoenix’ was one of the first name options, but pretty far down on my list. And Roger was at the top. And ‘Wright,’ I felt, had to be the his last name, because of the pun in Japanese… ‘Naruhodo’ was used so many times in the text as a joke. Also, it’s just self-deprecating humor, where the one guy whose name is ‘I get it!’ just doesn’t get it. I needed something that was bold and like, ‘Yeah right, I got it!’ so he could say that and kind of own that attitude, even though he had no idea what he was doing.
“So ‘Wright’ was there, and ‘Roger’ was my first choice, because heroes—they like to have alliteration. Also, if you’ve ever seen the movie Airplane, [‘Roger’] is a great source of silly jokes as well. So that seemed like a name with a lot of potential. They ended up going for ‘Phoenix’ because they liked the heroism of it, and there was a comment from the Japanese dev team—they felt like ‘Roger Wright’ sounded too much like ‘Roger Rabbit.'”

Over 100,000 amiibo figures have been sold in Japan thus far
Posted on 9 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, News | 6 Comments
Yesterday, Nintendo shared some sales data for amiibo in the United States. We now have information about how the figures are performing in Japan.
According to Japanese sales tracker Media Create, 104,000 figures have been sold thus far. Link is the most popular amiibo with 16,000 units sold. Since Link works with both Smash Bros. and Hyrule Warriors, Media Create speculates that consumers were interested in getting special items.
Media Create talks about the sales of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U as well. It sold 228,000 copies in its debut week, which is much lower than the 820,000 first week sales of Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
This newest Smash Bros. was the first multiplatform entry in the series having launched on both Wii U and 3DS. Because the 3DS version released in September, Media Create believes more users flocked to that version. Smash for Nintendo’s handheld moved 945,000 units in its first week and total sales are at 1.788 million. Combined, the two games on Wii U and 3DS are at two million copies sold.

Several internal Sony e-mails have been leaking to the press over the last week following a particularly nasty hacking incident, and some uncovered by Buzzfeed appear to contain some interesting Nintendo-related details. According to leaked e-mails between producer Avi Arad and Sony higher-ups, Arad had landed the rights for Sony Pictures Animation to produce an animated film based on the popular Super Mario Bros. series:
“I am the proud father of mario the animated film [sic],” producer Avi Arad told Sony studio chief Amy Pascal in an email dated Oct. 23, 2014, with the subject line “Mario.” Arad then forwarded Pascal separate images of him with Mario Bros. creator Shigeru Miyamoto and Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata, the latter of which included the message, “Happy ceo, lets get together, it’s the mother load.
