World of Anterra

81monkeys is currently hosting what has already become a hugely successful Kickstarter campaign for its upcoming project World of Anterra. The game, an open world RPG that’s been described as a take on The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim with pixel art, is already confirmed for Switch.

World of Anterra will offer “an endlessly explorable open world, deep progression systems, fast paced combat, and rich lore, all wrapped in a satisfying and accessible interface.” Players can explore a huge world with oceans, continents, regions, castles and towns, mountains, caves, and dungeons. NPCs, which have conversational dialogue, are an important part of the game as well and they live their lives following daily routines and respond dynamically to events in the world and the player. That’s on top of a main story and quests that follow non-linear, divergent paths. We can’t also forget about the party-based combat that’s “designed to be fun no matter how many hours you put in, with streamlined UI and engaging feedback.”

Skycadia

Skycadia is making its way to Switch next week, Studio Nisse has announced. The flying adventure is slated for September 8 on Nintendo’s console.

Sonic Origins how it came to be

Two of the primary developers behind Sonic Origins have briefly discussed how the release came together. Producer Nobuya Ohashi, along with director Katsuyuki Shigihara, chatted with Japanese magazine Famitsu in a recent interview.

With Ohashi, he started out by explaining that SEGA had renewed interest in focusing on the Sonic IP, but things picked up even further after the popularity of the first Sonic the Hedgehog movie. He said:

Touch controls were a staple of many handheld Monster Hunter entries, which left many fans wondering why the control options weren’t quite as expansive in Monster Hunter Rise. In a recent interview with Nintendo Dream, Monster Hunter Rise director Yasunori Ichinose explained that as the Switch is a hybrid console, control choices largely stemmed from the fact the team had to develop with both handheld and docked play in mind.

Below is a translation of Ichinose’s full explanation, as well as other tidbits he shared about developing the game on Capcom’s proprietary RE Engine.
