It’s not often that Nintendo talks about past Zelda games. Right now, all eyes are focused on Breath of the Wild. But in this month’s issue of RetroGamer, the magazine caught up with Zelda: A Link to the Past director Takashi Tezuka and script writer Kensuke Tanabe to look back on the classic game.

Most of the comments we have are from Tezuka, who talked about the game’s structure, scrapped idea, and more. Tanabe also chimed in with Tezuka at one point to talk about the advantages of working with the SNES at the time.

Head past the break for a rundown of Tezuka and Tanabe’s comments.

Some folks are already starting to get their hands on the new Mario Sports Superstars amiibo cards. An unboxing video for one of the packs can be found below.

XSEED brought up a problematic situation the company was facing with Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns’ DLC last week. Essentially, in order to localize the new content for the west, they’d need to charge for it due to the huge amount of work involved as opposed to releasing it free like in Japan.

The community has spoken and XSEED has decided on which direction to take. Due to feedback received, Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns’ DLC will be localized.

XSEED wrote in a Tumblr blog post:

“We were really overwhelmed by the feedback we received from it. The patience and support of those who responded was encouraging to say the least, and we were grateful to hear all of your opinions, however you felt about the situation. One issue that came up on our forums that I’d like to address quickly is about the bug fixes that were included in the post-launch patches in Japan. Those fixes are all already included in the core game that we are releasing on February 28.

Now then, on to the big news: I’m happy to report that we have decided to localize and release the DLC in North America. I don’t have information on a release timeline or costs for you yet, but we’re eager to dive into translating and editing the text for this massive update. Stay tuned for updates in the months after the initial release.

Thanks again for all your feedback. It made our decision much easier. While the DLC is a ways off, until then we hope you enjoy Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns. Even without the post-launch DLC, it is still the biggest game in the storied history of the farm/life-sim series.”

Thanks to Blackbishop for the tip.

A video has popped up showing some of the unlocks earned by scanning certain amiibo in Zelda: Breath of the Wild. It’s far down the rabbit hole in terms of spoilers though, so we’ve put the video after the break. Proceed at your own risk!

Another new episode of Nintendo Minute is now live. This time around, Switch producer Yoshiaki Koizumi stops by to chat about the system and share things that you may not know about it. Watch the full video below.

Tomorrow Corporation previously announced three eShop releases for Switch launch. World of Goo, Little Inferno, and Human Resource Machine were all previously on track for March 3. However, there could be a bump in the road.

True to his lighthearted nature, Tomorrow Corporation’s Kyle Gabler told Polygon the following when asked if the company is still on board for Swich’s launch:

“We hope we can make it! We’re still just 3 people, trying to launch 3 games on March 3rd — and it’s going to be close. For reference, the Zelda team has approximately 2.9 billion people and a really fast horse, but we’re close behind. Save some champagne for us, Nintendo, we’re going to be bloody and tired and maybe not all 3 of us will make it alive, but we’re going to get there, and the games will be stunning!”

For Nintendo’s part, they’re only saying the following:

“In addition to Fast RMX, Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment and Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove, day-one digital titles on the eShop will include The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, 1-2-Switch, Super Bomberman R and Just Dance 2017.”

By the way, those hoping that previous purchases of Tomorrow Corporation’s games from older Nintendo systems can’t be transferred in any way. “We cannot comment on the content of each game, but we have nothing to announce regarding past purchases carrying over,” Nintendo said.

Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata has once again weighed in on Switch. In an interview with Polygon, Tabata called the system “kind of like the dream machine” due to it being able to accomplish several tasks.

He said:

“Given my track record… I’ve worked on handheld titles, but I’ve also worked on console games. So the fact that Switch is both at the same time is really fascinating to me. I’m really interested in coming up with ideas and how to capitalize on that technology and how to create the best experience possible on the technology. But I’m not quite sure that I have it yet.

“You have your Switch sitting in front of the television and you’re playing on the big screen and then you take it out, put it down on the table. It becomes a monitor. You take out the two Joy-Cons, and you play with a friend … it doesn’t stop there, because in my mind, it would be really perfect if you could then take this new monitor and use it like a tablet, for example, and play different apps on it like you would on your iPhone or your Android. So basically, it’s accomplishing three tasks in one machine. It’s kind of like the dream machine.”

“While I may not be working on anything for it at this point in time, a lot of people on the staff are really interested in the Switch. Myself included! Many of the people on the dev team are older; they’re married; they have kids. One of the things they’d like to do is create something they could also play with their children, or that their children could play on their own, for example.”
