Rumors

Grab your Ferrari (or just a 3DS), because it looks like M2’s next 3D re-imagining of a retro Sega title is the 1986 classic, Out Run. The game’s logo popped up on the Japanese website for their range of 3DS ports, so it looks like more news on the game should be imminent.

We’re still waiting to see if Sega will localise this second wave of 3D classics, but fingers crossed that we’ll get to play these new versions of Fantasy Zone, After Burner II and, of course, Out Run some time in the near future. But until then I’ll be working on my Galaxy Force II high score.

Kirby Triple Deluxe may only be a few months off from landing in North America. GameStop currently has the game listed for a May 2 release.

That date is certainly plausible. Might we hear something about the game’s overseas tomorrow during tomorrow’s Nintendo Direct?

Yoshi’s New Island may be getting a 3DS XL bundle, if a listing found on one online store is to be believed.

Retailer Base has a page up for a “Yoshi Limited Edition 3DS XL Bundle”. The product is apparently due out on March 14 – the game’s release date.

We’ll consider this a rumor for the time being, in large part because the listing includes a fan-made boxart. Nintendo has not officially confirmed a bundle for Yoshi’s New Island at this time.

More unconfirmed Sonic Boom tidbits have appeared through a report published by TSSZ.

The site claims that the upcoming game is indeed planned as the third Nintendo-exclusive Sonic title. It’s a bit unclear whether the game will ultimately remain on Nintendo platforms though, in part due to the Jazwares sign spotted at the International Toy Fair last weekend.

At least for now, Sonic Boom is said to be a part of the main Sonic canon going forward. SEGA may change its plans depending on how fans react, which could ultimately impact Boom’s direction in the future.

Lastly, the new Sonic Boom game is apparently a 3D platformer with an emphasis on exploration. Multiplayer characters will apparently be playable.

That’s all for now. Note that SEGA has not officially confirmed this information.

According to Play-Asia, Mario Golf: World Tour will be available starting on May 2nd.

The retailer tweeted earlier today:

There hasn’t been much news about Mario Golf: World Tour in recent months. The game was originally scheduled to be released in the second half of 2013, but was pushed back to 2014 back in June.

Jazwares, a toy maker which produces Sonic the Hedgehog products, appeared at the Nuremberg International Toy Fair last week. The company brought along the sign that seemingly reveals the existence of a new, untitled Sonic game. Assuming the image above is believable, we’ll be seeing the Blue Blur in a new title on the Wii U, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in 2015.

According to a report aired on the Japanese national TV channel NHK, Sony has completed acquisition plans for a semiconductors plant in Tsuruoka, Yamagata prefecture. The factory is, as of now, owned by Renesas Electronics and produces the Wii U’s eDRAM chip.

Sony is said to be making a purchase for seven billion yen – or roughly 68 million dollars – with further plans to invest an additional 20 million in new production facilities. The plant will be used to increase Sony’s production of smartphone CMOS sensors.

Implications on Wii U production are expected to be minimal. The consensus is that Nintendo has plenty of chips already available, and the factory producing the Wii U’s eDRAM would have shuttered in any case without Sony’s acquisition.

The release of Watch Dogs on Wii U may be in jeopardy.

GameStop locations in Italy have been telling consumers that the game will not be available for Nintendo’s platform and are being advised to move their pre-orders to a different version. Additionally, the retailer is says Ubisoft cancelled Watch Dogs on Wii U. It’s supposedly no longer in GameStop’s database as well.

These tidbits don’t come straight from Ubisoft, but there is still a reason to be concerned about Watch Dogs’ status. Has Ubisoft truly canned the Wii U version?

Thanks to Timo for the tip.

After the NPD Group revealed that December was the Wii U’s best month in the US from a sales perspective, we knew the console moved at least 460,000 units. Apparently, based on the latest leaks, the final figure sits at around 480,000. We can’t confirm this figure currently, though it seems quite likely.
